My mom (due to cancer, etc.) throws up alot and has a problem digesting food in her STOMACH only (she has a J-Tube to her jejunum for tube feeding). We'd like to go back to regular oral feeding, but nothing seems to be digested in the stomach (when she throws it up a day or two later it is intact, etc.).

Was wondering if digestive enzymes would help? I know GNC has a few (pills/tablets)...any ideas?

Digestive enzymes are always helpful but do not use tablets only use capsules Or liquids, because of your mother's health.

I have dealt with many cancer patients with the exact same problem as your mother and here's what I recommend. papaya juice has natural enzymes that would help balance the stomach. Fresh papaya would also be good if she can tolerate eating it. This contains more enzymes than any other food. Also foods that are high in enzymes are avocado and figs.

It's best at this time if you can make liquid juices for her and if she can tolerate it some protein powder. It's not going to be rapid that you can get back into food. Be patient and experiment.

if you would like it any other information from me just let me know,

I have heard of people recovering from cancer having success with drinking kombucha. I drink it every day for general health. It has many enzymes, probiotics, and amino acids. It helps with body alkalinity. Enzymes are good, too. I take the GNC ones, and I have had good success. I recently went from being a vegetarian to eating elk meat that a friend killed and processed. I was worried I'd have digestive issues, but I just took enzymes before I ate it, and no problem at all. Hope this helps. By the way, you want to do some research on Kombucha before giving it to your mom. Ask your doctor if he thinks it is a good/bad idea. Most likely he will say no, because it is not a "western medicine" remedy...GT's Kombucha is widely available (Wild Oats, Whole Foods, and some independent health food stores carry it).

I'm so sorry that your mother is so ill, this is a very stressfull time for all concerned. You know, instead of spending precious cash on extra tablets etc. that may simply get regurgitated again cos your mom's digestion is weak how about buying some organic apple cider vinegar from any good health food store. Put two tablespoons full into a glass with cold water and get her to drink it slowly through a straw. The taste is a citrus type tangy taste. Use honey to taste if she doesn't like it. By doing this half an hour before all meals you will be giving her digestive system a helping by doing the job that the hydrochloric acid in her stomach usually does. This simple remedy is extremely effective and will give her immediate relief from tiredness, irritability, indigestion, gassiness and numerous other irritations. You surely should try this as it is a totally natural food stuff, has no chemical additives and is extremely cheap. I do it myself before all my meals and use a brand called Bragg's.

I hope my information helps you and gives your mother some relief, which it surely will. Also, considering the situation, you must be very stressed yourself??? In times of stress we need to increase our intake of the B complex group of vitamins. In particular B12 and B2. Symptoms of B12 deficiency include depression, fatigue and exhaustion, irritability and moodiness, head and hand sweats, head aches, migraines,, inability to concentrate, impaired balance, chest pains and palpitations.

The recommended daily intake for adults is 2mcg. I suggest you go to the chemist and ask the pharmacist to recommend a good quality brand for you to buy.

For B12 to be properly assimilated through the stomach it is necessary to be combined with calcium during absorption to adequately benefit the body.

Symptoms of B2 deficiency are sore lips, mouth and tongue, cracked and splitting skin aroundyour fingernails and grainy and sandy feeling eyes. B2 (Riboflavin) will be included in the Multi B complex supplement that you buy. The recommended daily intake for this vitamin is 1.2 - 1.7mg.

Foods rich in B2 are milk, liver, kidney, cheese, leafy green vegies, fish, eggs, yoghurt and beans.

If you are a vegetarian and have excluded eggs and dairy products from your diet, then you need B12 supplementation. If you keep regular "Happy Hours" and drink a lot, B12 is an important supplement for you. heavy protein consumers also need extra amounts of this vitamin. B12 & B2 work best synergistically with all the other B vitamins, hence my advice to get yourself a B complex vitamin supplement.

If you choose to follow my advice you'll both be very please you did as you will get relief from any symptoms you may have fairly quickly - within 24 hours.

PEACE & LIGHT

Sorry to hear that. Enzymes pills is good, but you should treat her cancer instead of helpping her in her digestive system. There this products that help a lot of cancer people to control their condition better. Try Spirulina that help to build up your body to surpress the cancer from growing. Dr. Xeniji is a to help your body activate itself to produce enzymes and metalbolism, it also help your body to increase the Natural Killing Cell to fight against cancer cells. Hope that I could help your mother. P.S. Beware, any drug have their side effect to our body. regardless about their speedy effect on controlling. Foods are medicine and not drug as medicine.

Cheers.

Digestive enzymes could be helpful. Also acidophillis (aka probiotics) is very good for the digestive system. Its usually kept in the fridge section of your local healthfood store. Here is some more info, good luck with everything:

I have gotten amazing help in healing the lining of my stomach with Aloe Vera. You can get it in health food stores, Trader Joes, China town. But I prefer fresh which can often be obtained in Korean or markets who sell to the Mexican community. Or you can purchase a plant at nursery. I eat both the inside and the tough, bitter outside. But with you mother it would be best to use just the inside...several times a day and before the time she begins to try nourishment. I, as a nurse, would suggest she sit straight up to eat, and start with very small amounts, beautifully served.
