I honestly think that we did.
We showed that, as a whole, by moving to "democracy" without bloodshed and in retrospect actually with a lot of good feelings and mega-positiveness.
The truth and reconciliation committee also played a big role and highlighted the idea and common belief that talking about things starts the healing process.
The biggest problem now is crime and lack of transparency and ethics in politics, and we are repeatedly expected to "forgive" this too, I believe that this and the lack of justice is wearing a lot of oozing good will, positiveness and patience thin.

The South Africans are in my opinion not very patient. They are not giving up easily and try very hard to pursue their dreams. Forgiving? ... That is one of the main things out mothers try to learn us from childhood. If it's a success I do not know. In a few instances that I know of, forgiveness was not an option. Feuds would go on for years and even generations. But in general I would say Yes, I think that we are more forgivable nation than a hateful society, but it depends also on the background you came from. Can't speak for everyone.

I wish all SAfricans were forgiving! It would make life so much easier in our country. Black people cannot blame whites for their problems anymore. They have had a black government for 12 years now. Yet still really not much has changed in terms of poor black living conditions! But still it is blamed on Apartheid!
I think SAfricans are generally a positive nation, but not very patient. At least we are honest with each other(look at the people on this forum), When everyone can forgive we will definately have a country worth fighting for!

Perhaps forgive, but never forget - Desmond Tutu did a lot to eleviate anger back in the days after the new whats it !!!!!!!!
But I don't think people forget and if a slightly similar occurance happens then all the old wounds are again opened and so the forgiving has to begin again - now in real terms that can only happen so many times before the wronged person goes - not forgiving any more and digs their heels in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No we are not a very forgiving nation. We might forgive eventually but we dont ever forget.
Trust me on this one. 7 out of 10 times, the person that you wronged will pay you back in dividends. Thats how it works, payback is a "beach" and revenge is a dish best served cold.
Then again, this might just be me!

We are generally friendly and willing to help, forgive begrudgingly but never forget that is why so many are bitter.
