Is there any symbolic explanation for this? r just a tradition followed.

I think it has something to do with the death sentence. In those days many people got executed (hanging) and the judge always has to wear black to give out the death sentence, even today I believe

I think it's more just a tradition than anything else.

becoz black is not just the colour of darkness, it is the colour of knowledge,of supremacy & of refined tastes...ever noticed that college graduates always wear black on their graduation day??!!
