No. I lived in NY for 34 years and people don't punch anyone unless they have a really good reason to.
Where I come from it was "I should (I'm gonna) punch you in the head". This statement is mostly a warning, and if you kept running your mouth you'd get punched.

I've lived here for about 16 years, never heard anyone say that. What we DO say is "You don't like NYC? Then stay the f*ck out, punk-a zzz little bi tch."
