Why has the human race (western world at least) forgotten about love, wether it be love for neibour, friend, family or special someone.

Our media is a mirror of ourselves, or at least the marketable majority. And what do we see on it,
Soap Operas where by the end everyone has slept with everyone else.
Tough guy heros that care more about power over the group than figuring out thier problem so that they can live another day.
Tourture and murder proclamed as the way to get information.

But that is to hard to get into, so let us just focus on the single relationship. "Why do you like her?" "Because she is hot!", Ring a bell anyone?

This is the state of our society at the moment. Get together with the best looking one, it's status after all. And what of those who have deformations of mind or body, do they get a look in by the 'normals' as far as relationships go?

So my question is, What has happened to love?

Thanks.

One of the signs of the times is that love will wax cold. I believe that is definately happening. Why? I'm not completely sure. We face so many challenges during these times we live in. As far as physical comforts and pleasures are concerned, we have more of those than maybe any other time. Self-gratification is simple in our day. But that is half the problem. Everyone is out to gratify themselves temporally with quick fixes, and forget to truly love themselves and their neighbors. If we can't love ourselves how can we love our neighbors. Love starts with loving oneself. That doesn't mean self-indulgent behavior, giving yourself all the niceties life has to offer. That means treating yourself with dignity and respect. Taking care of your body, mind and spirit. If we learn to do this, we will learn to take care of the world around us. The world is a projection of us. What we think we create. Whatever the world is today, is a reflection of our hearts. If we want to live in a world full of love we have to love ourselves and others. Love begins with me.

I married for love and love only. Everyday we both work opposite hours just to make ends meet. It has been hard over the years but I love him more as the years have passed. We still share those vibes. I do not regret it. I have always wondered why people cared about what car the guy drove or whom he knew or what he wore. I saw those eyes and felt his soul. I have yet to meet another couple like us. so I just look around and seeing it makes me appreciate what I have even more. At the same time, we do not know what goes on behind closed doors. Sometimes people get caught up in the "world". Maybe deep inside their hearts they feel love. If there wasn't any love in this world then how are we still standing?

A Star question indeed!!

I believe the world has always been basically selfish... and love has ever been the romantic imagination or momentary emotion. Some fools, those days as well as these days, who believed the fairy story have paid heavy price for their naivety. The talk, the show, the act, all related to love that we come across is in reality either illusion or hypocrisy!!

I put my views strongly since where hypocrisy is involved, one has to be blunt and sharp at once to make a point.

I used to think the world was a dismal ****hole. Yes, there are a lot of negative things in the world, wars and genocide, greed and mass-profiteering at the expense of others, superficial values being imbibed by the masses. And as you say, a lot of people who have forgotten about love.

First of all, however, the media is not an accurate mirror of society. There are plenty of "gate-keepers" out there whose goals are only to increase revenue. These people know that easy to digest products sell, and these machines have given us and most of the recent pop music, soap operas, processed food, and the superficial Hollywood block-buster type movies. And besides these gate-keepers, there are still more gate-keepers that know fear is another easy way to attract attention and thereby generate ad revenue (aka, the sensationalist type journalism).

But the problem isn't just the media, it's also the masses.
The masses are generally lazy and willing to believe what the media tells them. In fact, there is a lot more out there than what is on TV or in magazines or in movies or at the mall. What appears in these places in only what the people with money want you to see.

But you need to realize the world is as you perceive it and will exist as you make it. Now I'm not saying that things will change simply because you want them to, but I am saying, there *are* people out there who understand love and there *are* positive things going on in the world, if you seek them out and open yourself up to seeing them.

Yes, the world is filled with "bad" people, but there are also many good ones as well. I know many of them, and they have given me the metaphorical shirt off their backs, and they all carry love in their heart.

I agree with you, but love is not only stuff at the end of the fairy tales, untill you know one heart full with love and sharing it every day with loved ones, neighbours, friends...........you can hope that out there are more like that.......and will be more....
what has happened to love? not with love but with people, love is inside everyone, just somehow some dont let it come out, some are afraid, some believe in it but never take a chance and every time let it pass by..... people live the way it is easyer for them... and they dont understand that maybe with love life is more difficult, but without love there is not life at all.......

first of all thanks for posting this, i agree with you a 100%! what the rest of the world calls love is really lust. love to them has become pointless. loving a friend as a friend or a person just because they are a human is no longer part of our society. i don't really know what happened to love, i just wish we could get it back.
peace and God bless all, i love you just for being human :)

I was never one to conform to the general consensus. Never will. Love is everything. Without it we perish.
