It's Auld Lang Syne (old times gone) and was traditionally played by Guy Lombardo and The Royal Canadians on New Years Eve. The lyrics are a poem by Robbie Burns.

The only song I know remotely close is "Auld Lang Syne"- which is typically sung on New Year's Eve.

Did you mean ... "Auld Lang Syne"? It is a poem by Robert Burns, although a similar poem by Robert Ayton (1570-1638), as well as older folk songs, use the same phrase, and may well have inspired Burns.
