are my frames per second in games such at counter strike source directly related to my video card only? I used to get around 110 with my nvidia geforce 7800 gtx video card, and then i installed vista ultimate and now i have around 30 or 40 :(. Do i need to upgrade to a video card like the gtx 8800? or is it just because of vista and this directx 10 thing that i dont understand? what do you think i should do? and will the new video card help with the cpu usage or is that just my cpu?

Frames per second (FPS) means how many frames your video card can show in one second. The higher the FPS, the better. Gamers are the ones who worry about this and the video cards they use.

Since Vista and XP are two different operating systems, it may be the driver. Look for an updated driver from the manufacturer's website for Windows Vista, in this case nVidia, and install it. If it makes no difference, then it may be Vista since it is still really buggy and uses a lot of video memory - I mean It is a graphics intensive OS. You may have to wait a couple of months til nVidia releases an updated driver for Vista.

Jargon Josh is rather suited. you are able to evaluate turning off any unused amenities (I hate each and every of the history updates for Quicktime and another media participant) and determine you're no longer working the different purposes on the comparable time. There are some strategies finding on your version of domicile windows (optimize for overall performance, no longer history projects, etc.) yet those are often set to optimize foreground overall performance with the help of default. turn off IM and go out from that. examine for the little doohickeys on the ingredient of your initiate menu & turn off any you do no longer desire. previous that it gets dicier - turning off domicile windows record and printer sharing may be a sturdy theory besides the fact that if it probably won't help lots, and it seems such as you're enjoying over the internet so which you would be able to no longer disable the LAN. determine you have have been given the latest drivers out of your video card broker, this is a exceedingly rapid Radeon card, this is proably new-ish and there may be greater moderen drivers. previous which you would be able to initiate finding at optimizing issues from interior the interest. i don't be attentive to what WoW enables, yet many video games assist you to commerce off more suitable effects (transparency, mirrored image) for overall performance. turn down the cool effects and you get a particularly much less pleasing seen with a miles better physique cost. changing to a decrease selection mode is the main suitable eye candy vs. physique cost commerce-off. in case you bypass to decrease selection issues bypass swifter, on the grounds that their are merely fewer pixels to entice.

Try with Windows Classic theme, i.e. no Aero. During Vista Beta testing, someone ran my DirectX 9 benchmark (free and small) and it was quite a bit slower with Aero around.
