Scissors were invented thousands of years ago (roughly 1500 B.C.) in ancient Egypt. Early scissors have been found in ancient Egyptian ruins. These early scissors were made from one piece of metal (unlike modern scissors, which are made from two cross-blades which pivot around a fulcrum). Modern cross-bladed scissors were invented in ancient Rome (roughly A.D. 100). Early scissors were used by clothes makers and barbers. Scissors were not in common use until much later, in the 1500's (in Europe). http://www.enchantedlearning.com/inventors/1300.shtml just have to scroll down to scissors

Scissors were invented by Leonardo da Vinci. Or maybe it was Thomas Edison, but who gives a monkey's ass. Anyways, Captain Inventor Man decided that he could get his paper cutting done a lot faster if he could control one blade with each finger. He created the prototype for the scissors: called the pentissors, it can best be described as "two and a half modern pairs of scissors, all crammed together". Much like today's razor blade manufacturers, everyone agreed that his product had way too many blades. Of course, he told everyone "Well, if I'm so bad at inventing, why don't you idiots invent something better?" Well, they did invent something better, the scissors. The pentissors went on to be a commercial miserable failure, but he made six metric shitloads of money from suing the pants off everyone for patent infringement.
While scissors have always been effective at cutting paper, there has not been very much success of using scisors to cut rock. Some people have speculated about the possibility of utilizing the sharpness of the scissors in a rotary fashion, so as to focus on a single weak point of a rock, without having to rely solely on muscle power to destroy the rock in question. However, most scientists agree that this is downright impossible, though they have yet to mathmatically prove it - part of the infamously elusive 'unsolvable' problem known as the Conventional rock-paper-scissors conjecture.
The minority continue to explore the exciting new field of string theory for ways to let scissors beat rock. Some are suspecting that there is a hypothetical knot capable of immobilizing a general lump of rock, given that the scissors are made of strings vibrating in correct hypothetical formation. If all goes to plan, the hypothetic result would be the rock ending up stuck in one of the holes of the scissors, and physically incapable of escaping, hypothetically. Unfortunately, this still doesn't give a solution to the original problem of how scissors could cut the rock

Scissors were likely invented in 1500 BC in ancient Egypt[3]. These were likely shears with the joint at the far end[4]. Modern cross-bladed scissors were invented by Romans around AD 100.
An immense stride in perfecting scissors was taken in 1761 when one Robert Hinchliffe produced the first pair made of cast steel, hardened and polished. The forming of the bows was his greatest difficulty. Somehow he solved problems with the hole. A ready sale was found for his wares in London and other markets. He lived in Cheney Square, and was reputed to be the first person who put out a signboard proclaiming himself "fine scissor manufacturer".[5].
In a part of Sweden (today Finland) an ironworks was started 1649 in the hamlet "Fiskars" between Helsingfors and Åbo (fi: Turku). In 1830 a new owner started the first cutlery works in Finland, now a part of Russia, making among others scissors with the trade mark FISKARS. In the sovereign Finland FISKARS Corporation introduced in 1967 new methods in the manufacturing of scissors.[6].
