As a 19 year old mixed latino/white kid & combination of high school, college, & 3 years working in retail, I have seen good & bad in every color & gender. My question regards the stereotypical white females that are "married w/ kids drive an SUV & live in a nice house in the all-white suburbs" types, not white females in general (because I know white women who are very kind). For those of u who are the type I described, why is it that you must stick your noses up at other people, esp those in service and treat those who are not like you as lesser than you? And please, why do you not hand the money to the salesperson half the time & have such cold attitudes towards those of other races/ethnicities? Especially hispanics, it seems on TV shows & the media the latin lover is a dream but in reality you all act like you are scared of us other types. Why? Not all of us are that bad. (And yes, I know not all white females are like as I described believe me). But for the ones who are, why?

I know other races aren't perfect either, & I'm not trying to single any of you out nor am I trying to sound racist, I'm just looking for an informative answer to a sad truth. (For white (or any) woman who is sweet and kind, please do not take offense to this question and if you do I apologize in advance). Just looking for answers from the ones who aren't as nice....

And yes, I know not all other non-white races are the nicest people either, just for the record...

They won't admit it sweetie but I know what you mean. There just upper crust snobs who think (really) they are better than everyone else.

As a white female that lives in a the burbs and drives an SUV and fits most of that "description". I'm not sure how to answer that question. I'm a native Texan too.

My best friend is Mexican and over the last year or so "since that stupid WALL against illegals" has been an issue. I feel the prejudice goes both ways. The Hispanic woman have been extremely rude to me for no reason. I have lived very happily with all cultures and races, I'm not sure what is happening. I don't look or act any different, I am perceived as such.

Honestly, I think that people in general are just RUDE to service people to make themselves "feel" like better people or big shots. There is not excuse for bad behavior, not matter the race or class. I too am service related and treated often that same way....they quickly change "their tune" when they find out that I'm not just the "worker" but the owner doing the work. But Oh WELL...its too late those true colors are already exposed. I love when they complain about my service to another employee and want to talk to the owner.... that always makes my day. Hee hee.

Now, I must agree with you... My parents are both very prejudice and call people very derogate names and talk down to them... Yet...its been my life goal to embrace diversity.

Don't get me started on snobby white women. The funny thing is these girls are in for a real wake up call. I hang with a very diverse group of guys, and you would not believe their attitudes towards white American women.

Some of them don't even bother dating ANY American women. They basically work, and stay home too save money then get a group of guys together and go to some other country like Thailand or Brazil.

I know the type of woman you are talking about, my mother is one of them, and her logic is that since she earned her Bachelor's degree (and married a lawyer) she is better than anyone below the upper middle class (regardless of race). Granted she is in her 50s and not as many women went to college when she did, but her reason for choosing the college she did was because her best friend went there and the male to female ratio was in her favor. She earns a decent amount of money, but it is my father that supports our family. Nevertheless, she feels that she is above others who did not "work" as hard as she did.

I love my mother, but we are two completely different people and I cannot stand her attitude towards others. Unfortunately, some people are just like that.

I'm a white dude, (Who ironically loves latino women). My business takes me into the homes of these women of which you speak. From my experience, I tend to notice that these women might be business savvy, economically savvy, and generally well educated. However, it's these same people, and mostly women I've noticed...Who tend to be less well rounded in culture concerning music, cinema, art, and kind of live in a safe bubble with things like...American Idol, Top 40 radio, Oprah, ...etc. These type of outlets don't deal with guys like you and me.. The cooking network doesn't talk about the latino barista at Starbucks, Oprah doesn't talk about the latino guy working in retail. For instance, I make $50,000 a year, and own, my own business and home. But these same women treat me with disrespect in places like Starbucks, or Home Depot, because frankly, I don't look like I belong in they're "bubble". I don't get the same service because I don't look like I work at Nordstrom. It's True!! Why are they so rude? Because when these "ladies" go out to shop at your store, or get they're $5 coffee...They're doing it to be around others like they're kind. You won't see them in a delicious BBQ resteraunt on the black side of town even though the food is incredible. You won't see them in the Drum n' Bass section of Tower Records, because how many Sqaurepusher CDs do you see in those Nissan SUV's? I think at some point in our lives we're all guilty of this...But like me, your noticing these white women because they're on TV, they're on the internet..(How many gorgeous latino women do you see on those cell phone ad's all over the yahoo homepage?)...They're everywhere, because the mainstream bubble can advertise to them. They're mean because they know they're being catered too. Also, let's just say it, some of them are racist.

I feel you. Sometimes it just that they are "classist" and just rubbing their money in other people's faces and on the other hand some may just be prejudice and racist. Not all affluent white women are this way, the most that I have met have common sense and are good friends. However, I have had some encounters with women that have acted that way, so I put them in their place. I either mention my college degree discreetly or give them my business card. Either way, the reaction I get is golden: shame and guilt. lol

I noticed the same thing. I just had a call from one of those women the other day. A black man offered to help her carry her luggage into the airport, and then she claimed one went missing and that he stole it. It turned up later at Northwest Airlines. She referred to her "perp" as "some black guy." I wanted to slap her with a rubber hose.
