I am hoping to stay within $600-$750. I'd like to be able to listen to & store lots of music, watch vidio clips/movies, play games, save photos, do reserch, possibly vidio editing I guess (that would be more for my bf) I want it to be fast and virus free also, of course. What should i get, and what kind of upgrades would I need? Thank you.
P.S: As you can probably tell, I don't know squat about computers. So for those of you who do- If you could please dumb down your answers a bit so I understand more, it would be appreciated. =)
THANK YOU!

For $600-750 youre not going to get much of a gaming or video editing laptop. Both rely heavily on memory and an independent GPU, which are major contributors to a computers cost.
The whole virus-free, etc thing has nothing to do with the actual hardware and everything to do with the software you are running. If you want windows pre-installed (which you probably do) then viruses and spyware are always going to be part of your life. You could install linux, or buy a mac, but linux is not easy to use, and macs are not cheap.

Long story short, youre going to want a computer with an idependent graphics processor and video memory for playing 3d games and video editing. Anything that boasts "integrated graphics" is out of the question for what you want to do.
Also, youre going to need sheer processing power with good cache memory so anything Celeron or Duron(which are usually cheaper) is out of the question. I'd recommend the new Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processors.

Dell would probably be your cheapest route since they usually sell computers with independent GPU's and pre-installed anti-virus, but they also come with loads of other software that youre going to want someone to clean out for you.

It's really a loaded question you are asking. But I'm afraid if you want all brand new hardware and a system that can fulfill all your needs youre going to have to shell out a bit more money.

If you're willing to spend $50 more don't think about it and go before the sale is over.
