In early evolution periods, whoever thought to put something in their mouth when they were hungry? How? Who thought to drink water? How did people ever come to think of doing that?

The really basic things like eating drinking would have evolved long before conscious thought. Every animal eats when it is hungry and drinks when it is thirsty. In fact, some animals will eat themselves to death if there is enough food around. Those aren't the amazing things.

What I want to know is how did someone ever come up with the idea of cooking food before eating it? Was it an accident? Or how did anyone ever conceive of rolling leaves together and smoking it?

You do not need conscious thought for these things. They are instinctive like breathing. Even unthinking creatures do these things. Do you think about each breath you take???
I don't mean to pick on you but you really should read some science books on evolution before asking questions like this. The library should have many that do not assume you are already familiar with the main concepts. Ask the librarian to help you.

all organisms adapt to their surroundings, or they die...if you watch a newborn baby, the first things they do are gulp or cry as they breathe air (survival), and turn towards a touch a "rooting" instinct for food (survival)...
