i thought 300 was going to be good like Gladiator or Troy but it wasn't not even close. i'm so dissapointed with the movie.
to me there wasn't even a story line. anyway is it just me or do you all think that the Spartians in the movie all looked buff. Seriously they all look like Heman and chip and dales. They could at least put some chunky guys in there. Not that they didn't look hot or anything. It just made the movie seemed too fake. there are other reasons why i didn't enjoy the movie but that would take me all night to write it down. Well for those who seen it what do you all think about it?

Even if a person was trianed to fight at a young age and eat healthy that still doesn't make a person musculer and buff. Eating fruits, drinking water or running around isn't the way to built up muscle. sure your in shape and healthy and all but it dosen't bulk you up. to gain muscle you need to eat lots of red meat and lift heavy weigths. Not what the one guy comment me said. i guess you don't know what your saying after all.

Anyways i'm still dissapointed w/ the movie. i still thought it seemed too fake to make all the Sparta look like Heman. AND whether some of you like the movie or not I still think that Gladiator and Troy was better.

I perfectly agree with you.Exactly the same feelings.Nowhere near Gladiator. This has a complete animated look and except for some good fight sequences ,there was nothing in it.
It was disappointing to say the least.

Actually the movie was fantastic...it was a shot-for-shot adaptation of Frank Millers graphic novel and is probably the best comic book films ever.
As far as saying that it is just fake to have buff men in an army is ridiculous. Consider training for battle your entire life. Climbing mountains, running wild, fighting other people, holding a shield that weighs over a hundred pounds, the food isn't fattening (most is just fruits and grains and sometimes meat), all that is done is training. You would be suprise what that would do to a human body. Showing a chubby man would make the movie fake. It would show that they are not elite soldiers and must not have been trained since birth. Think before you say something ridicolous like that.
Your entitled to your opinion of the movie, but don't say that it's fake to have an army of men with muscles because it would be fake if it was just the opposite.
Edit:
Actually I am a Kinesiology major and hoping to become a football coach. Right now I play D-3 football and what you are describing has little or nothing to do with the muscular build they had. They had lean muscle, defined muscle, not massive muscles. Repetitive actions tear muscles and the body produces just enough to repair and throughout life this will define your body. Weightlifting is just an easy and fast way to build mass. Being defined like the men in this movie requires several repetitive actions.
Run 6 stadiums everday for 14 days and you will notice that your leg muscles and calf muscles are much more defined. One, you lost fat that was in that area, and two, the motions left tears in your muscles that were repaired by your body. These tears are much smaller than those who seek mass and will define your muscle.
They probably were not healthy. As just eating fruits and grains is not a sign of being healthy. Fit, yes. Healthy, probably not. When you don't contain a high amount of body fat and have a rigorous day, every day for your life, your muscles will become defined.
Study before you bring your 9th grade health class as a source.

The spartans are supposed to be one the top knotch soldiers. Since they grew up all they did was train. The guys were muscular, but they weren't that muscular. It's not like they looked like Arnold Scwarzanegger or anything like that. Just becaus they weren't gyms and dumbells back in greece didn't mean guys weren't muscular or chisled back then, because if you see sculptors made of men in ancient greece they were quite chisled. If you wonder why they looked like that, I would have to admit that part of it was visual or sexual. But, if you claim that you're army has the best soldiers, then you are going to want to make them look that way. That means that they would have be really fit and in great shape, and basically have near perfect physiques. Having this phyqsique gives a soldier the strength and athelticism to take on soldiers in battle and be like well oiled machines. Think about what professional atheletes look like. One of the most athletic atheletes are football players or NFl players. These guys physique mimimicked that of Wrs, lbs, TEs, depending on the men, but these guys were even more chiseld than ripped NFL players.

there is a better story line in 300 than gladiator, its about self sacrifice of the few for the greater good of the many. gladiator was your basic revenge movie, although it was still good, it was fake. 300 was a hollywood remake of a true story. if you didnt get it, maybe you where spending to much time looking for chunky guys.(if your into that sort of thing, which apparently ouy are) also, i would geuss that your a chris farley fan over a goerge carlin fan? just an observation.

I loved 300, although it's not a movie I think would stand up to multiple viewings.
Granted, back in those days you aren't going to have the perfectly developed physique as portrayed in the movie, but that's what you are going to get these days. The Spartans were considered elite warriors, and to generate that impression, that's how they did it. Most people out there equate muscle size and low body fat % with fitness, that's why we get the mesomorphs in those portrayals. It's the socialized ideal.
300 mad a bit more going for it in the historical references department. They took liberties with some parts in Gladiator, and Troy just butchered The Illiad.

What you needed to see was HOW the movie was made. Now that was awesome. The graphics were good and the movie was a slight departure from the cineramic movie too. But I liked it. Now you have to remember if Brad Pitt had been the Sparta King then the attendance might have been greater. Sometimes, one guy can make a movie look good.

I just saw it last night. Great movie, but definitely not for everyone. You have to remember that the poducer was Frank Miller who also did Sin City. Miller is usually a graphic novelist, ie, comic books, so to him, the visiual effects and cinematography are just as important as the story, perhaps even more so. This is one of the reasons why the Spartans looked the way they did, same for the Persians and everyone else; it was meant to look like a comic book.
As far as historical accuracy, the movie took several liberties which I disagree with, but nevertheless, I thought it was a great protrayal of one of histories greatest stories.

sure they were able to sleep. back then conflict wasn't waged at evening, basically in the course of the day and it wasn't raged in the course of undesirable climate both. the mantra replaced into only a raising chant like the defense force does now with HOORAH. Get the spirits up and receives them waiting to bypass to conflict. in the action picture it confirmed them dozing at the same time as he replaced into walking between them and they were all exceeded out on their shields and such. It also confirmed them eating, which i'm particular that once they drank they slept...
