There are many subjects to study prior to opening a business.

It depends on how big is the business that you'll open. For small business, there is a short course consisting of entrepreneurship, business organization, management, bookkeeping, marketing, production, finance, etc.

You need also to be really familiar with the kind of business that you like to open otherwise you may encounter some technical problems as well aside from marketing and financial management only.

You are going to hear many people to tell you to take business courses. But you also need a broader education to be a true entrepreneur. Take some history, political science, psychology, English, wood shop, etc. It's from these areas that you'll gain insight into your employees, your competition, your community, and your customer. Thinking only about the accounting and the business side of life is what gave us the disasters of 'New Coke', 'Digital Rights Management', and '80's style Wallstreet'.

Good Luck.

When you start your own business you are going to find out that not only are you the boss - but you become the decision maker (can't blame mistakes and errors on anyone else now, can we?), head bookkeeper, accounts receivable and accounts payable clerk (yes there is a difference between bookkeeping and accounting), sales and customer service manager, shipping manager - did I leave anything out? Oh, yeah - cheif sweeper-upper and light turner outter.

Think about it.

The # 1 is, of course---lieing. Take it from me, Pal. Other people will not always appreciate your true motives, even if it's simply"'self interest." So you lie. We all do.
The getting caught part? That's where you have to plan carefully, and stick to the plan. The getting caught part . No.
You best make it your business not to get caught many times before finally, Death catches you. Just make sure you always tell yourself the truth. Might as well.
