Don't take this the wrong way man, are you sure you're not confusing RAM with hard drive space?

If it's memory that you're looking for, then like the other guy said go to a place like http://www.crucial.com or http://www.kingston.com to find an online configurator which will help you pick the right size and type.

Also if you think you're low on memory, adding a hard drive isn't going to make any difference. If you've got a really old PC (more than 6 years), chances are that your money is going to be better spent towards a new one. Even the cheapest Dell or HP computer (as low as $400) is going to blow anything more than 2 years old out of the water.

So no, adding a hard drive doesn't usually help with speed. It only does if your hard drive space is really low or if you plan on moving the "swap file" (look it up on google) over to the new drive. But even then, the help is minimal.

If most of your current hard drive (the master drive) is used up, adding a 2nd hard drive (slave) to free up a little space on your master may speed your system up a little because the operating system will be able to use more of the master drive as a virtual memory. The perceived increase in speed will be very little however.
