Cheti means the name of month Chaithra.

Chandra means moon.

The first of Chaithra month is the new year. Sindhis call it Chetti Chandra. Maharashtra they call it Gudi Padua. In Andhra and Karnataka they call it Ugadi.

These are local usages for the new year.
