I loved thunderstorms as a child. My mother had to hassle me to get me to bed on the night of a thunderstorm. I saw them as fantastic shows of nature. See them as being a great light show. You wouldn't be afraid of a light show at a concert, would you?

The thing that scares most folks about thunderstorms is all the loud noise-but that's all it is is loud noise.
The lighting is another matter. Sit on a covered porch so you can get a view of an approaching storm. Do it with a friend or more. Watch the clouds build and the flashes within the clouds. It is really a beautiful sight to watch.
Then watch for lighting flashes. If you can see and hear their after effects then don't worry-just enjoy a free show.
If you take all the necessary precautions you should be fine.
If you can stand the sounds from a bowling alley a thunderstorm is easy.
I taught my son, at a very young age, to enjoy this light show and he is now 9 and can't wait for another one to show up.
Nature at her finest.

I love thunderstorms. But i used to be so scared of them when i was little. What if the lightening hit me? Thunder used to send me running in another direction. But now i love them. I think you need to just think, about all your loved ones up in heaven bowling or having a party with fireworks. My nan used to tell me that all the time. It kinda takes the edge away. We used to wait for the loudest crack and someone would call out STRIKE!! It just made a fun game. I think maybe if you know that a storm is coming prepare yourself that its only rain and a bit of noise. The lightening cant hurt you if you are responsible and safe and try and enjoy it. A good television partner and some hot chips with gravy while a storm rages outside. There is nothing beter. Good Luck with it!!

Try researching the topic. I used to have a paralizing phobia of storms when I was a kid. I wouldn't go outside if the wind was blowing anything more than a light breeze. My parents got me some books about weather and I researched it and read about it and realized there's nothing to be scared of. Now I'm a meteorologist. go figure.
