If you watch the show from beginning to now you'll see that Baltar, surprisingly, isn't actually guilty. It's fascinating, really, that he's never actually 'colluded with' the Cylons in the way the trial says he did...it's like the woman attorney said: she won't argue something she can't prove and they don't have any evidence that he DID turn traitor.

Think about it: all of the things against him are oddly circumstantial. The original attack...New Caprica...none of it was his fault directly and he didn't TRY to lead the Cylons there anyway. The original attack was just him egotistically showing off his influence to impress his girlfriend (letting her into the defense mainframe as a 'favor'); New Caprica was discovered 'cause he felt bad for Gina...who promptly blew herself and 1-4 other ships up as a marker to the Cylons when she found out that Baltar intended to settle.

The things he DID do are minor in comparison. He hid the identities of the Cylons in the fleet (by passing everyone he tested with his Cylon detector) and is thereby responsible for the assassination attempt against Adama. He handed the nuke over to Gina so that it could be used to secure a higher office for himself (through fear of one of the less than happy groups in the fleet...I don't really remember that bit too well). I'm sure there are several other minor things that are still considered treason but the main thing is that he's on trial for crimes he didn't commit.

Now, whether the council/tribunal/thing sees it that way is uncertain. Gaius Baltar's character is central to the show so I doubt he'd just be executed but there'd be equal amounts of chaos either way its ruled. Guess we'll just have to see how it goes....

Personally, I hope they rule not guilty just so we can see Roslin/Adama/Tigh go bonkers. ^_^

I think the last couple of episodes have sucked! Last night's was one of the better this season, Baltar's trial begins. It offers great opportunity for the struggling writers to catch up with tried and proven drama (law and order). I think they 'll take it out to a season finale. Next season, we will learn that Baltar's is found not guilty. The character Baltar is a survivor. No matter how much he's hated, he manages stay just ahead of the reaper.

Well he's obviously guilty, but I think that Baltar will get a mistrial or something equally inconclusive. You just know that they aren't going to airlock him, because who's left to be crazy on the show now that Xena-3 and Starbuck are gone? I'm not so much concerned with Baltar's trial, but it does look like somebody is going to be revealed as one of the Final 5 cylons. I'm thinking Anders. Or maybe Tigh. Dee, Gaeta, possibly Ellen, and that pilot who was a cylon captive are my other choices.

Of course he is guilty!
Is he going to be found guilty on the trail that is another question. He probably will be found guilty, but i wouldn't be surprised if the silons, or at least #6 rescued him .
