I actually think they are pretty dead even, Reyes has more stolen bases, but Jeter has more power. If you look at the Yahoo ranking of the players, Jeter is rated 4th offensively, 20th overall
and Reyes is rated 5th offensively, 3rd overall...somewhat misleading but says Reyes has more upside.
Hope this answers your question!

The question was simply "Is Jose Reyes or Derek Jeter better?" Answered simply it is Jose Reyes.
The debate comes in when the topic is broadened. Do I have a real team or a fantasy team. Though Reyes brings ALL five tools to the table, it is quite difficult to argue with Jeter's success.
At this point the question shouldn't be who's better, but who would you rather have. I think to not say Jeter would be foolish. Though Reyes has had a very good last year and a decent first year behind him (17 triples in back to back years? Wow!), Jeter has had 11 quality years and doesn't seem to be slowing down yet (.344 ba, 118 runs, 97 RsBI?! and 34 SB in '06). When Reyes string 5 seasons of Jeter quality and brings home the championship, I'd take him, until then Jeter is proven over and over how to win and give the Yankees a chance to win. I'd take Jeter over Reyes if I were starting a team.
But to answer "your" question again... Reyes. Reyes is definately the better (more talented) player.

The way that I like to test these things is by asking the following question: If the Mets offered to trade Reyes to a team for player A and the Yankees offered to trade Jeter for that same player, which deal would the GM of the objective team accept.
The answer is that EVERY GM IN BASEBALL would take Reyes. He's younger and more dynamic. Don't get me wrong, both are great players. Reyes's age just gives him the advantage.
If the question is for just the next season, then it becomes a much more difficult one, though I would still prefer Reyes.
FULL DISCLOSURE NOTIFICATION: I'm a Mets fan, but I try to be objective.

Listening to ESPN 1050 Radio in New York City, someone asked the question, would you rather have Reyes or Jeter and I believe the correct answer was given:
"Jeter for two years, Reyes for 10"

I agree with Ozgard. Jeter is the better player. Reyes is overrated in my book. He doesnt even hit 300! He may have age, speed, and upside on Jeter but Reyes from what I have seen is useless in the clutch, the EXACT opposite of Jeter. Those are a few reasons why Jeter is the better of the two. GO CARDINALS!

What kind of question is that?! is miguel cabrera better than A-rod??? NO.....Jeter is a HOF'er whereas Reyes isn't even close to that level yet, Jeter is a much better fielder too. Just because Reyes is a better fantasy player doesn't mean you can compare him to Jeter

put reyes on the teams jeter was on through the 90's and even now and the yankees can add 10 WS championships. not to mention reyes would be able to score close to 150 runs every year on the yankees. jeter has been overrated all of these years, until the last several now that he can actually put up league leading numbers. hes not the reason ny won.

suited now, i might %. Reyes, in elementary terms because of the fact he's youthful. they're 2 distinctive gamers. advantageous, Reyes has greater speed and greater selection now, yet Jeter continues to be a greater finished participant regular. Reyes is greater dynamic, as he's 9 years youthful, besides the fact that if this is puzzling to argue with Jeter who has a .317 profession BA and could exceed 3000 hits. As for the genius who says Jeter is a pretend, while replace into the final time you observed Jeter ensue an opponent? the guy treats everybody with admire. He makes performs look greater stable than they're? He had nowhere to bypass while he caught that ball against Boston.in keeping with risk he replace into on the fringe of catching it in undemanding territory, yet what number gamers seize the ball then supply up lifeless of their tracks while they're on the run? you don't be attentive to what you're speaking approximately. Did he pretend the shrink on his cheek or the scar he has now? Idiotic. BTW, in case you undergo in strategies, the Yankees performed the Mets the subsequent evening at Shea and Jeter have been given a standing ovation--from Mets followers.
