Northwest Phx is your best bet.

South Phoenix is a really bad area. It's very poor and there is a lot of crime.

West Phoenix is really bad too. If your car were to ever get stolen that's where it usually ends up. It has a lot of crime (violent crime). Almost every day I see in the paper about how someone got shot over there.

East Phoenix isn't too bad. If you get east of 24th street it's not that bad.

North/Northwest Phoenix is probably the safest and the nicest. There isn't as much crime, and it's much newer. I have lived in Glendale which is right next to Northwest Phoenix all of my life and I would never think about moving any where else. It's very nice, you don't have to worry about your car getting stolen or your house gettting broke into. The houses are much newer and nicer.

Housing (home) costs have sky rocketed in the past 3 years. Therefore, I'd consider renting first in Tempe, Mesa, N/W Phoenix or in the Chandler/ Gilbert areas. Scottsdale (North),is nice but very expensive and traffic is awful at rush hour. June-mid Sept is hot 95-115 degrees and August is more humid with our rainy-monsoon season. Not much in downtown Phoenix after 5 PM and lots of construction there until the new light rail system is finished in about 15 months.

If you don't mind driving awhile to get to the city, Queen Creek has pretty affordable housing and there are a ton of new housing developments there. Also, Ahwatukee is really nice, but it's pretty expensive. Central and south Phoenix are kinda ghetto. But, if you go far enough south, like around South Mountain, that's where Ahwatukee is. Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are nice, although very pricey. Tempe isn't bad if you can find a nice area or if you're a college student. Definitely try the east Valley though- that's where Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, and Queen Creek are.

Best is relative... Gilbert (where I live has a lot of "new" to offer... A new major road (202), a new shopping mall opening this fall, lots of shopping plazas, etc. It also has a low crime rate, nice shools and lots of parks. But, it's a little on the pricy side (about $140/sq ft for homes). There are new subdivisions opening up in Florence, they much less expensive, but the infrastructure isn't in place yet to provide for ease of travel to PHX. Where you will want to live will be based on what you are looking for to consider it the "best part". One piece of advice: Don't buy property near a canal or other body of water - these tend to draw scorpions and they'll come out during heavy rains. (This is a voice of experience.)

Depends on several things--do you like the big city and don't mind the heat? Then choose Phoenix. Do you like a college town--then Tempe (also hot). If you like seasonable weather, shoot for mid-state; although, I'm not sure about the job situation there.

Northwest Phoenix is very nice and pleasant. Most areas off the 101 loop are good.

do some research on casa grande only a half hour from the valley. Its kinda smack dab right in the middle of phoenix and tucson. Its a nice place to live and a growing town.

ODE TO ARIZONA

The Devil wanted a place on earth.
Sort of a summer home:
A place to spend his vacation
Whenever he wanted to roam.

So he picked out Arizona.
A place both wretched and rough.
Here the climate was to his liking
And the cowboys were hardened and tough.

He dried up the streams in the canyons
and ordered no rain to fall:
He dried up the lakes in the valleys,
Then baked and scorched it all.

Then over his barren desert
He transplanted shrubs from Hell.
The cactus, thistle and prickly pear --
The climate suited them well.

Now, the home was much to his liking.
But animal life, he had none:
So he created crawling creatures
That all mankind would shun.

First he made the rattlesnake.
With its forked poisonous tongue:
Taught it to strike and rattle
And how to swallow its young.

Then he made Scorpions and Lizards
And the ugly old Horned Toad.
He placed spiders of every description
Under rocks by the side of the road.

Then he ordered the sun to shine hotter.
Hotter and hotter still.
Until even the cactus wilted
And the old Horned Toad looked ill.

Then he gazed on his earthly kingdom.
As any creator would:
He chuckled a little up his sleeve
And admitted that it was good.

'Twas summer now and Satan lay
By a prickly pear to rest.
The sweat rolled off his wearthy brow.
So he took off his coat and vest.

"By Golly," he finally panted
"I did my job too well.
I'm going back where I came from
Arizona is hotter than Hell!"

Well everything is beutiful there, the only few problems would be the harsh heat in the summers and sometimes in the spring but other than that enjoy!
