What can I do to repair the slight scratches made by my wipers when I went thru a mud puddle? My new windshield has slight scoring marks and I know there has to be a way to repair them. Do NOT want to buy a new windshield again!

If the scratches are shallow enough that you can't feel them with a finger nail....Cerium Oxide is the way to go. Glass shops should be able to get their hands on some. You mix cerium oxide and water together to form a paste with a consistency similar to toothpaste. Use a felt pad (2" in diameter and 1" in height) and dab the flat part of the pad (not the curved sides) into the cerium oxide paste. This pad should come on a 1/4" shaft, so you can use a cordless drill. Keep the speed low and start buffing the area. Test a small area. Do not let the cerium oxide paste get dry...keep it moist. Go back and check your work and continue as needed.

If the scratches are so deep you can feel them with a finger nail, then you'll watch to grind them down a bit first with a 2000 grit silicon carbide sandpaper using water as a lubricant. After doing that, clean off the area and see if that grit is working...if it's not, move to a 1500 grit paper. Before switching grits, make sure you first thoroughly clean the glass. Once you're satisfied with the amount that you'd ground down, move to the above mentioned steps for polishing with cerium oxide.

Replace your wipers.....get the good ones this time. I hope thats not why you replaced the last one.

As for the repair, go back and ask the sho that installed it if there is a fix for something that minor.

Go to jcwhitney.com and they sell a glass polish. Then with a drill and buffing pad you can "sand and polish" it. I think the grit is like 32000. And do not use a cordless drill as these do not usually get enough RPM.
