I have a 55 gal. tank w/ 7 tiger barbs, 3 denison barbs (aka roseline shark), 1 red-tail shark, and a spotted pleco. I'm thinking about moving my 4 dwarf gouramis into this tank, but not sure if they'll get along with the tiger barbs. The gouramis are bigger than the barbs, but I've heard about the fin-nipping, etc. Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

Tiger barbs are known to be slightly aggressive with other fish. If you have a big group of them (10 or more) they are usually too busy chasing each other to bother other species. I wouldn't mix them with gouramis personally - their long dangly bits would just be too tempting to nip!

We just moved a couple of tiger barbs in with our ram and tetras (peacefuls like the gouramis) but one of the 2 barbs was really annoying everyone (especially fish with red on them) with the fin nipping. That barb has since died and now we have one tiger barb in and luckily he is quite peaceful and is living well with the tetras and ram. I wouldn't think it's the best idea, cos the chances of a boisterous barb wanting to play nippy with the gouramis is high, because you have so many barbs. Saying that though, you give it a try and see how it goes. You could always transfer them back if it doesn't work out.
Sometimes when the barbs are in big groups they will just keep the fin nipping between themselves.

Tiger barbs could be aggressive and nip the fins of alternative fish if no longer stored with the cautioned college of 6. They require a carefully planted aquarium with a sand backside for digging. yet for the main area confident, they have compatibility. even in spite of the shown fact that, in a 20 gallon, that must be thank you to many fish. Gold gouramis get agressive whilst they get larger (that's 6 inches) and require 30 gallons of territory each and every. you ought to the two have 2 dwarf gourami's with 5 tiger barbs or one million dwarf with 6 barbs on your tank. i does not recmmend conserving finished length gouramis in a 20 gal.

Barbs are usually fine if they are in a big enough school. If you keep them in small numbers or alone they will be aggressive and pick on other fish. I would say the safe bet is a school of 10 or more barbs in a tank that size and they most likely won't bother other species...but it may happen occasionally.

Sometimes these work out and sometimes there will be a blood-bath------you do have a nice size tank there so you should be able to create some safe places for bullied fish to retreat into-------------try them and see------just keep a watchful eye for the first day or two and have a back-up plan should the aggression prove to be too dangerous.-Good Luck-----sounds like a nice community so far----a fine selection!
