All of the answers I read here have a modicum of truth. Unfortunately, we may have evolved to a point in our society where more and more often, folks are substituting ethics for morals.

Ethical behavior allows folks to feel like they are still pretty good people in spite of the way that they cheat, steal, swindle, gouge, and pat themselves on the back for being competitive. All too often, we use competition as an excuse to be unduely rude, unkind, or callous. Ethical people get to do road rage, lop sided contracts, and they get to take credit for other people's accomplishments in the same office. "Hey, we're on the same teem. So what if I didn't make any of the meetings? We got the job done. I just know how to schmooz the boss."

"Ethical behavior is the right, correct, honest way to behave." Define right, and from what did you derive that definition?

Don't be ethical, be selfish. It works a lot better when you live in the mountains or on an island though.

Have fun.

Ethical behavior, as agreed upon within a society, makes it easier to live together in large groups with lower degrees of violence, conflict, and stress.

Behaving ethically should make life easier within the society for individuals.

So, ethical behavior is that behavior that is proscribed or allowed within a society that reduces conflict and stress.
