Because Nintendo didn't actually believe that their propaganda would actually work.

Most people would love the XBOX 360 if they gave it a shot. Just because the nintendo has horrible graphics and are re-selling the Super Nintendo as something called a ""Wii"" as Japanese markets our country... it sells crazy because of the ""innovative controller"" that every other system has had in form of vibrating controls and controls that detect movement as well as pressure sensitive buttons and joysticks.

Anyway... try the Microsoft Xbox 360.

One main reason is that the Wii is a new product on an assembly line. It did take sometime for Nintendo to streamline production and to run at full capacity. Nintendo is now running at over full capacity and expects to make its target numbers. But, the demand for the system is more then Nintendo predicted and can produce. Unlike what many people think, Nintendo doesn't make any more money off of not having Wiis in stores. The people that are riding the increase in demand are ones that sell the systems online for amounts over the MSRP of the console.

The demand is so high that Nintendo can't keep up. New consoles are notorious for shortages at the beginning of their lifecycles, and the Wii is in such strong demand that unlike the 360 and PS3, Nintendo simply hasn't caught up yet. Nintendo moved something like 400,000 wiis last month, they're making as many as they can, but demand is just so high.

Simply put, you can only make the systems at a certain rate before it effects the quality of the system. The PS2 and PS3 both suffered from this fact. Demand for the Wii is just too high.

I'm just guessing but maybe because the demand drives up the price and they make more money. There's also that intrigue of things you can't have/get/find. It builds even more interest.
