You can always upgrade (as long as you do it before you get here). I think the Disney Dining Plan is great and it does include the dinner shows like the Luau and the Hoop De Doo Review so be sure to see them when you are in town! Have a great vacation!

In order to book the dining plan, you have to have a package booked at Walt Disney World. That means that your room and tickets need to be booked together, otherwise you have what is called a room only where you buy your room and tickets seperately. Also, you must be staying at one of Disney's onsite resorts, the least expensive being the value resorts, i.e. Pop Century and the All Star Movies, all the way up to the deluxe and home away from home resorts.
Since you already have your tickets purchased, but don't mention the room, I'm going to assume that you haven't booked your room yet. So, that will give you fewer options as far as what you can do. I'm not sure if this would be any different for you because of where you live, but in the U.S. the tickets cannot be used toward a package when purchased seperately, so I suppose you could always ask to verify, but I don't think you will be able to use them. There are a few things that you could do:
1). You could wait to use the tickets you already have until you go back to Disney in the future and don't want to use the dining plan (although after experiencing the dining plan this may not be the case, but the plan may change, prices go up, etc.) As long as you don't use the tickets on your upcoming trip, they will not expire until you use them. However, if you even use one day of the tickets, they will expire 14 days from the first day you used them, unless you paid more for the not expiration option. Since most of the time this is not added onto the ticket, you probably do not have it, though you could always choose to add it. So, if you save these tickets, you could go ahead and purchase a package with the dining and tickets and room all together.
2). This option would still allow you to use the tickets your have purchased for this trip, rather than saving them. In this case you would still need to purchase a package. What I would suggest doing is buying the package, but rather than buying tickets for everyday you will need, you only buy a one day base pass. This would give you the package that you need in order to get the dining plan and add on the least expensive option for tickets, and you would still be able to use the pass that you have. Just realize that you will be paying a higher rate for that one day pass since that is the first few days of tickets are basically at full price. Since you get a discount on a longer pass, you may just want to buy the longer pass and save the other tickets to save money.
The dining plan is so popular that Disney does not allow anyone to add the plan after they arrive. You have to put this onto your package before you leave. I would check on what the time frame is for you, but I think in the U.S. it is 48 hours in advance. So just make sure you check into that before it would be too late. But you can still add the dining plan onto a package if you don't have it yet, as long as you do it before the deadline and don't wait until you are in Disney to try and add it.
I hope this answers your question!
Have a great time!

I think you have to upgrade before you check in is all. I think if you call they will give you a lot more info than Im capable of. Or check out the web site at www.disney.com, there is a lot of info on there so it should help you, if not get you a number that you can call to ask! But im pretty sure you can upgrade for you get there! I would suggest doing it, the dining plan is so worth it, have fun!
