I have lived in MD for the last 10 years and i hate it! My daughter is approaching school age and I would like to leave my past behind me and move. However, with everything so expensive where is there a good place to move. Currently, I reside in Owings Mills, MD, I have no family and not many friends so there is not much to leave behind but I really would like to move some where on the east coast, low crime, great work environment and lots of fun and activities for my daughter, please e-mail if you would like to expand on suggestions.

Reno, Nevada is a pretty nice place as cities go...its very pretty and the clouds roll in and out beautifully....its a growing place so I am sure there is a lot of job opportunity....I feel safe in Reno....its just 30 minutes from the mountains of California where you can enjoy Lake Tahoe and many other lakes,,, your child can learn to ski or you can fish or bike or boat or hang out at the beach...in the winter it snows some in Reno and a lot in the mountains..the air is clean...the people are nice...there is a sense of community...there are nice parks and libraries and great shopping...there is gambling if you like or not...there are 4 seasons...its got a level 2 trauma center and an international airport..It also has a very very nice college..UNR...I think its a decent choice...it is not east coast but its very nice...check it out...and good luck

There are a lot of small towns in Texas that are good to live in, but you are wanting to stay on the East coast, so I can't be of help in that part of the country. There are a lot of small towns near Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio and even certain areas of El Paso that are inexpensive in comparison to the East coast and have a very low crime rate, and down to earth friendly people and clean air. We don't have a state income tax and many areas have low property tax. We believe in the right to protect one's self from criminals and also protect our family and personal property. We also don't have strict gun laws that result in only criminals having guns. And best of all, Texas has a really good growth in employment in many fields, especially if you have an education. There are many good opportunities for a person who is willing to work hard. Excluding the big cities, most schools have a good safe environment for children to learn and be educated.

I hope you find what you are looking for and may God bless you on your journey.

It depends on many things I don't know. (Like your salary)

I have a brother who lives near the ocean in LA and it's great. It's 72 & sunny every day (It seems) but it's very expensive, You can live away from the coast but it will still not be cheap and it gets very hot in the summer.

The east coast is fine, but I've found all but the most remote coastal areas have less than stellar records when it comes to schools and crime. That's not to say there aren't great places, but if your daughter leaves your safe bubble you have problems.

My choice was the upper midwest. The crime is low. The cost of living is low, public education is good and people with an eduction get paid well. In Iowa, where I live, you can buy a modest home for $100,000 and a really nice one for $250,000. In LA $100,000 is your downpayment. I also like that there are four seasons.

The biggest worry that I hear is "what is there to do?" Sadly, I hear that from my relatives in both LA & Michigan when they are talking about THEY'RE towns. There is plenty to do everywhere I've been, but most people are to busy or distracted to do them.

I would look into Ames or Ankeny, Iowa. They have good schools, low unemployment, Iowa State University for people interested in sports and both are in the Des Moines Metro area if you want musiems and "art" or anything else.

Good Luck!
