Well actually, in my age division (13 and 14 year olds) that is not the case. But I do agree, at smaller levels it seems to be common. It is probably because they are slower and bigger, and are able to block balls better. In my division, most coaches would prefer to have quick guys behind the plate. That is because they are able to get up and throw the ball faster and also can get to ball ball quicker if it is wild. Last year my team had a guy who wasn't chubby, but he was SO SLOW!!! We probably lost at least 4 games alone because of his lack of speed. This year, I have played a little catcher for the first and it's actually not that hard. The only thing I have a problem with is the bouncers. It's also a little hard to not flinch when the batter swings.

I find offense to that because I play catcher for my softball team and I am one of the skinniest people on the team, so not all catchers are chubby. But if some them are kind of chubby, it might be because they need to loose wheight, and you need to be able to make plays fast, so they might be trying to loose weight.

It's not that they seem chubby, it's just when a kid comes along who IS chubby, they seem to make them the catcher because it's sometimes called the "backstop" position and it's harder to throw the ball around a bigger kid than it is a smaller kid.
Most chubby kids outgrow it and learn to play other positions.

They make them catchers because they can't run that well and all the fat comes in use blocking pitches in the dirt. Simple Phyisics

Because they are too chunky to pitch, don't hit well, can't run fast enough in the outfield- and aren't quick enough in the infield. So- they end up as catchers! :)

It's common place to put the "fat kid" in little league. I'm not trying to be rude, it's just true.
