If the president believes that he is doing what god told him, then doesnt this negate the idea of church and state seperate? If a president's politics is guided by religious affiliation, then how is the country democratic? We preach Democracy to the rest of the world, but through the foundation of the bible. Then is the country really a democracy?

the question isn't to belittle the country, just to ask whether it is true democracy or not.

Yuppy- If I wasn't patriotic, then I wouldnt be enlisting in the military. Just because I dont agree with the president, doesnt meant that I wont do as I am told by him. My allegiance is the Country, therefore whether I like it or not, I will always perform my duty.

You should not join the Air Force until you love America. You do understand when you join you lose all political affiliation and promise to support whomever the President is regardless of whether you agree with him or not. Don't join until you understand what you are doing. Thanks

The reason the US is failing at the attempt to be a Democracy is because the US is a Repulic not a Democracy , the term democracy is just another way of trying to be Politically correct Basically , This Country was founded on the beliefs of the Bible , the separation of Church and State was originally made to keep the Government from controlling the Churches ,and religious practices and to not require higher taxes for the non Christians , Episcopalians etc . The reason they originally did not include God in reference in the Bills was because they saw no need to do so , because back then nearly ever one attended Churche. If they were not they were basically out casts..the Freedom of religion was meant for the Founding (established ) Religion . When this was written all politicians ruled on things based on their belief in God. The modern day definition of separation of church and state did not come about until Madeline Murray O"Hare ( atheist ) started all of her anti God stuff , and it worked for now ,but is slowly reversing itself as Schools are gradually bringing the Bible back in the Schools ... or have you not noticed how downhill the Schools have gone ever sense they removed the Bible ,and Prayer... which is why it is slowly coming back to the Schools they are going to start re introducing the Bible as Literature , and as the other side of the teachings of evolution. The Bible has always played a role in our Country . it was our foundation of this Country , and is slowly being chopped away ,and without a foundation we will keep on falling in the direction we are going.

Dude. I'm not a huge fan of the president or his decisions but I do not recall him saying he does what he does because God told him to do so. Now I did serve in the greatest military orginization there is, The Marines. I did things I hope I never have to do again, but I will definetly say without any doubt this country is a democracy. Regardless of who's the president. And until you do serve and see other countries and what they deal with i don't think you will appreciate how well you have it right now. Before you join you may want to evaluate your personal positions about what you believe first. This is the best country in the world as far as the way we live and how we are able to express ourselves. I may not agree with your question or how you posed it but that's what makes this country special. Our old currency has it right. In God we Trust!

Actually the United States of America, as common as the misconception is, is not a democracy. The US of A is actually a republic. But if it were a democracy, you could test it out by telling your public officials how you feel, because you have that right. Complaining to everyone else isn't going to do any good unless someone stands up and says something to their elected officials.

The first amendment says the congress can not make any laws that establish a religion or any laws that interfere with your practice of religion. NO WHERE in the Constitution does it say that the church is to stay out of government it only say government is to stay out of religion.

The only place you can find "separation of church and state", is in a letter from Thomas Jefferson to a friend. And that letter is what the Supreme Court used to take prayer out of schools.

Second will someone please read the history of this country?

We are NOT nor have we ever been a Democracy! We are a Republic. There is a big difference so try getting it right!

Consider Bush, Jr. an aberration. the only open issue on him is whether historians will rank him worse than James Buchanan. US is still a democracy - and a strong democracy.

Of course you can say that. The 1st amendment guarantees you that right. Of course if you do say that, you will be 100% wrong & the 1st amendment gives me the right to say that you are at best misguided & at worst unpatriotic. The 1st amendment is a double edged sword. You have the right to free speech, but so does every other US citizen.

Our country's government is a plutocracy (a government by or for the rich). And yes, I am an American, born and bred in Texas, and I'm prior Air Force.
