You got razor burn. It can happen when you use a blade that's starting to dull, shave over the same area repeatedly, don't lubricate your skin properly beforehand, and sometimes just because the skin is sensitive. Anything that works for burns will work well for razor burn. I like Solarcaine. The burn/itch should be gone within about 24 hours. The bumps may last longer, but should all be cleared within a week.

Aftershave can help with the burn. Bumps right after are more likely irritation then ingrowns, they should go away in a day or so.

Try not to hate shaving. For many years, I just viewed as a chore. Now I use a straight razor and a brush and cream, and its a little 10 minute part of my day where I get to relax and do something men have been doing for generations.

Ok, Leo, here are some tips. Most of these are just common sense.

1. Get a nice razor, with replaceable bades. They need to change the name from "disposable razor", to "disposable lawn mower", or "disposable turkey carver". Wet-dry electric razors are also very nice, if you have sensitive skin.

2. Wash your face first. This helps keep any possible nicks or or excessive strokes from getting infected or irritated. Generally, the more moist your skin is when you shave, the less the chance of irritation or razor burn.

3. Use a mirror (duh!), use shaving cream, it really helps.

4. If it stings or is uncomfortable afterward, you are cutting it a little too close.

5. Razor burn usually goes away after about a day. If you have some larger bumps that look like acne, those are "ingrown hairs", you can treat them the same way as acne. I like to use hydrocortisone cream for the irritation.

Good luck,

quit trying to sound all cool cause you're shaving. in a few years you're going to realize how much you h@te it. and to answer your question, usualy a couple of days. depending on your growth, new hair growth will cover it up and and it wont be noticable.

some shaving tips: anything past 3 razors is a waste. i honestly don't notice much of a difference between 2 or 3. use the gel. you get a lot smoother shave.

It may take a two or three days for the irritation to heal. Try not to shve until they are totally healed and whatever you don't scratch 'em or they will take longer to heal. If you to shave, try to shave around them.

This is where a good quality shaving lotion/cream comes in handy - and, of course, quality blades. If you can get some skin lotion, it might help.
