The main difference is in the breeding. if they have pretty colors they are going to be sold as singles in pet store tanks. If they look plain poof they are magically feeders.

the version is in the breeding. Theoretically, the flowery guppies have been selectively bred to have specific features--the tail shape, the coloring, the patterning (snakeskin, tiger strips, etc.), this is why they fee greater. Feeder guppies are merely mutts--they have mated with the different guppy so there is not any way (so some distance) to song what their genetic strains are so which you would be able to no longer anticipate what their offspring would be like (breeding genuine to a definite function). Like puppy generators, feeder guppies are in many circumstances stored in substandard circumstances and are allowed to reproduce indiscriminately and customarily so they produce distinctive toddlers even if the fish are healthful or no longer (peculiar guppies are allowed to reproduce because of the fact the fish are in elementary terms going to be fed to larger fish). Feeder guppies could have colorings and lengthy fins too, merely no longer something you are able to anticipate in case you have been to mate it to a girl merely like it because of the fact this is genes are a jumble of distinctive donors. Even fancy guppies will each and every each and every now and then throw the oddball weirdo offspring (stunted or with disfunctional fins or a crooked backbone etc. that could desire to no longer be bred ever).

Feeder guppies are wild type. The females are grey and about 2" full grown. The males are less than 1" and have tiny sword tails with pastel green blue, purple, orange and/or pink mixed in the back half of their bodies. The males are quite cute. I've got two tanks full of feeder guppies I've had for over a decade.

Feeder guppies are small and plain, the males have colors but small tails. Fancy guppy males have big tails and very vivid colors.

Take a look at

to see some very nice fancy guppies.

Fancy guppies are the nice looking ones you buy as pets...feeders are just ugly guppies...without the long "fancy" tails.

If you want guppies...buy fancy guppies...some of them are actually quite stunning in their coloration.
