I have a student who MUST present her portrayal of Billie Holiday at a National Tournament.

How should my student prepare to display the mannerisms of a Heroin Addict?

What movies are out there that show Heroin Addicts and how they behave when high??

I'm sure there are any number of films that depict the horrors of heroin addiction.

However...if I were an actor preparing such a role, or if I were the person coaching such an actor, I would certainly NOT make the performances of other actors my main point of reference. It's like making a xerox of a xerox; you know what I mean?

Get online and start researching the medical reality of heroin addiction. If possible, schedule an interview with a physician who has first-hand experience. Ask THEM how heroin addicts behave, and then let the actor use her own imagination to translate those facts into performance elements. Don't settle for merely imitating what other performers have done.

"Man With the Golden Arm". I believe this is the title. Frank Sinatra palys a drummer/heroin addict.
"Bird" Forest Whitaker Plays Charlie Parker.
" New Jack City" Yes, it's about crack cocaine, but Chris Rock plays a good addict.
