I'm I crazy? Or should kovalchuk Be at least an Assistant or a Caption of the Atlanta Thrashers? Look at the guys stats, he's beyond a doubt one of the most talented players in the league right now. Its strange that there is not a huge A on the side of his jersey.... What do you guys think?

Being a great scorer doesn't mean that you are a great leader. for example, Scott Stevens, the former Devils captain, was a barely a scorer , but he taught his team to contribute and work as a unit, making him a great captain. And if you look at the New York Rangers, Jagr is a top-10 scorer in the history of the league and he is the worst captain and the only reason that the rangers are winning is because of Shanahan's leadership skills. I don't believe Kovalchuk should be a captain just by goals scored, he'd need to be a team leader too.

He's still a young guy, nevermind the fact that talent doesn't necessarily translate into a 'C' or an 'A'. By the same token, not having a letter doesn't preclude a player from being a leader, on or off the ice.

Anyway, at the end of the day, it can't be a purely points-driven decision if Scott Mellanby rocks the 'C', right?

No. Kovalchuk is a SELFISH player. You shouldn't have a selfish player wearing the A or C. Their stats should not be a good reason to give a person the A or C either.

Being Captain or an alternate, never has anything to do with stats,
it is to do with leadership, being a team player, what type of player he is in the locker room, things like that. He is still young and as he grows and matures he will grow into that position of team leader and I think eventually be an alternate. Surprisingly, not too many star players want the 'C' or "A' on their jersey, they just want to be one of the guys!

in case you sluggish pokes have not examine plenty hockey information these days, he is going to sign with the Devils with this new settlement that has been approved by making use of the NHL. The Kings won't see Ilya Kovalchuk of their jersey and the KHL is out of the question.
