Occlumency- the closing of your mind from the invasion of a legilimens (someone who can get into your head and see things you may not want them to and influence your thoughts or dreams). Snape is talented at this because he has to fool either Dumbledore or Voldemort as a double spy and they are both accomplished at legilimency. Snape was ordered to teach Harry this skill so that Voldy couldn't f with his dreams, get info and send him visions. Harry's cover story is that he is spending time with Snape in "remedial potions" as this is supposed to be a secret. Because Harry is emotional and open, his nature is against this sort of thing. He is not inclined to it. Furthermore, Snape is a mean teacher who is not patient or encouraging as Harry struggles to master this skill. Snape is angered during one lesson and stops teaching Harry. Harry mostly fails. Voldemort is able to invade Harry's mind.
You should read the book, it's fabulous. At least watch the movie on July 13th!

Occulamency (not sure of spelling) It's the ability to cloke your thoughts or read others thoughts. It would come in very handy in Snape's position as he is a double agent. The big question is, what side is he truely on?
Dumbledore wanted Harry to learn this talent so as to cloke his thoughts from Voldemort since Harry had been seeing bits of his memories or experiences. It was assumed that anything that Harry knew, Voldemort may also be able to read from Harry's mind. This is why Harry was kept in the dark about so much.

Legitimins and Occlumency class...about mind reading and protecting people from reading your mind. Voldemort is one of the best mind readers in the Wizard world. This was order by Headmaster Dumbledore to prepare Harry for the upcoming battle.

it is called occlumency; if i remember right it is the study of closing your mind so no one else can get in. ie. Voldemort.
But harry is telling everyone else that he is taking remedial potions.
