I was just reading this today in the American Academy of Pediatrics book for my 10-month-old. They recommend mostly breastmilk/formula (24-32 ounces/day), but say that 4-6 ounces of half juice/half water and up to 8 ounces of water/day are fine for 8-12 month old babies. The water should be filtered or bottled to reduce fluoride and other additives, though. Hope this helps!

I just had this talk with my babys doc the other day. Im a 1st time mommy to a 1 month old. I always thought water was good for everyone and my mom said give her water. I asked my doc and he said not untill they start eating baby food and stuff. My doc said babies get plenty of water in brest milk or formula but when they start eating solid foods and baby foods they dont drink as much milk and therefore need 4- 8 oz of water, but at first the baby may not like it so just everyday try to get him to drink a little more. Good Luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about water for a 9 mo. old. If it is extremely hot, I'd be sure to offer him some, but he should be getting plenty of hydration from breastmilk. The main thing is too offer it so that he gets used to the taste. Breastmilk and juice are both very sweet and can kind of ruin water for some kiddos. Introducing it early can help.

I wouldnt say that it is NECCESSARY for your baby to have any more then 8 oz of water a day. Breastmilk contains water. Most kids dont like it at that age, and dont drink it anyway. If you can get them to drink half a bottle of it, your doing good, and they will be just fine!

About 4 to 6 ozs is a good amount. He may not like it very much or even drink it at all at first, but it always a good idea to offer some. My son is 14 months and he started drink water at about eight months. I always offer it to him at meal times and he also drinks some during the day now.

I was told by my son's Pediatrician that babies really don't need water until they are about 1 year old. But @ times when it gets really hot I give my baby one ounce since the Pediatrician said that was okay. My baby is only 4 months and was 1 1/2 when i asked.

As much as he wants between feedings if it doesn't seem to fill him up. Just don't, I repeat DON'T ever introduce juice to him and he won't want it. My kids are 4 and 2 and crave water, not juice. Both my pediatrician and ped. dentist said juice has as much, or more sugar than soda, and even if diluted is just empty calories that gives them a taste for sweet drinks early on, and still ruins their teeth. Apple juice and raising are two of the most tooth decaying foods you can eat or drink. I tried to set my kids up for success by teaching their bodies to want water.

There is water in the baby food. If he has small, hard pellets when he poops, then he needs additional fluid. If he doesn't then he is fine.
I would start with 2 oz of water and see if it helps to alleviate his constipation.
As I mentioned before, if he isn't constipated you have nothing to worry about.
Giving him too much water will cause him to not eat.
What does your pediatrician say about this?

It will not hurt the baby. I recommend it so when the baby gets older it will like the taste. also you dont have to boil the water if you go buy baby water from the store. Also if you do boil. well I would make sure the water is tested for lead first. just to be safe. good luck
