Yes and no...
1. I agree that war is not the ugliest thing. There are lots of things that are uglier: governments feeding young soldiers into a war machine for no good reason comes to mind. Starving children, easily treated disease running rampant in poor countries....these are all uglier than war in my opinion.
2. I don't believe that the "decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling" is worse. I think those feelings result when war is waged lightly or without just cause.
3. I agree that the person who has nothing that he is willing to fight for is a miserable creature.
4. Soldiers are not necessarily "better" than others, but they are definitely to be honored and admired. Not everyone is a soldier.

Yes, you must be willing to fight for what you believe. Not just in war but thought and intellect; and politics. A person that believes that nothing larger than his or herself is worth believing enough to fight for is indeed nor does her or she deserve to be any other than; "a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"

I do not agree, since the implication is that a person who does not believe in war does not believe in anything worthy "fighting" for, & thus is a selfish & "miserable creature." There is a vast difference between war & invasion, as well as HONESTLY expressed (political) motivations for any military action. The quote is a false premise, & profoundly unsound.

Its a very well said. War is ugly but other things are uglier than war. Like lies of W. Bush. And sure if person has nothing and he is willing to fight for his rights then war is justify. War justify if its to improve services and deliveries, and alot more

Yes, where would I be if all former Americans hadn't fought for my freedom I have today? I am at liberty to pretty much go and do what I want to every day. I haven't had soldiers come
in and destroy or take my home. War is very ugly. At least we have so far been spared by the brave work of our military to
keep it elsewhere.

Yes and no; yes because without obsession a person is incomplete and no because war is not the only wayout in this universe-peace do have a chance at any point of time.

No I don't... Not at all. To me, no reason is good enough to fight. There are things I'm willing to fight for, but I'm not talking about fist fighting here! Morally fighting. I don't agree with war, I think it's unnecessary and barbarian.

fair enough. some things are worth war. but choose carefully what those things are, for that miserable creature does hang onto a raft of common sense, for war is rarely declared for the right reasons.

Logically this might make appropriate sense. yet while has the certainty ever pop out in the commencing up? Logically you are able to desire to declare the certainty might desire to be deduced from the comedian, no matter while it replace into printed. you are able to no longer look at it as, how old the understanding is, you ought to look at it as how genuine the understanding sounds. ***EDIT: How genuine the understanding sounds, based on the info you have been provided. . . which implies preserving an open strategies.
