I have had a few problems with my iPod before and when all else fails, you can "Restore" it back to its factory settings. If you are able to connect your iPod to your computer and then get your iPod's Main Menu, you will see a button that says "Restore." What this does is erases your iPod's hard drive and returns it to its original factory condition, meaning it won't have any of your songs on it anymore. This sounds a lot scarier than it is. You should have all of your songs already in your iTunes Library, so after you restore your iPod, you could then reconnect it to your computer and hopefully it would then sync and download all of your music again. Good luck.
