Pineapple Juice

Usage: There is an old wives' tale floating around that pineapple juice will help a fertilized egg implant. However, pineapple juice is not recommended for use in TTC and/or pregnancy. In large doses, it can cause uterine contractions and bring on spontaneous abortions (miscarriage).

Recommended Dosage: Drink only in small quantities, if at all.

Food Sources: Pineapples.

Side Effects: Large doses may cause uterine contractions, miscarriage, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, very heavy menstrual periods. Unripe pineapple is poisonous, causing excessive diarrhea.

Can Pregnant Women Eat Pineapple

Unless she is allergic, then there is no reason why a women who eats pineapple when she is not pregnant should not eat pineapple when pregnant.

Some people maintain that fresh pineapple is a miscarriage/early labour inducer because it contains bromelain, which may or may not soften the cervix. However, please note that there is very little actual reliable medically produced information on this, it is still debated - and given the amount of bromelain actually in the average whole fresh pineapple, you would have to eat about 8-10 of then in one sitting for the broemlain, if it did have any effect, to actually even start to have any effect. And by that point, you would either be too full to move or would have a mammoth dose of the trots - pounds and pounds of fresh fruit can have a laxative effect.

It is also worth noting that bromelain is destroyed by the canning process - this only applies to fresh pineapple.

Eat on, enjoy!

Pineapple is fine during pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my first I ate tons of it. I had maybe three or four cans of it a day and I went to St. Thomas during my pregnancy and ate a ton of it there too. My son is perfectly healthy and so am I.

I have never heard of that one, if it's fresh there should not be a problem with eating it.
