If you are not ovulating the sperm will die within minutes and may live up to half an hour. However if you are getting ready to ovulate it is possible for them to live up to five days. This is because the cervix produces a fluid that changes the PH balance of the vagina, making it more alkaline so that the sperm can survive. Normally the acidic environment of the vagina will kill the sperm.
What all this means is that there is about a week during which the sperm may live up to five days.
Good luck

This question actually has two answers - there is the issue of how long a sperm can "live" (stay mobile) and how long a sperm is actually able to fertlilize an egg.
Assuming the sperm is healthy, it can remain mobile in a woman's cervical mucus for *up to* 5 days, however, their ability to successfully fertilise an egg is usually limited to the first 24-48 hours after ejaculation - 72 tops. After this although they *may* still be mobile they usually won't be strong enough to do the job, so to speak.
However, it also depends on the woman - it is vital that her cervical mucus and other fluids are optimum. At times of the month when she is not ovulating, or if she is on the pill, her cervial mucus is not very sperm friendly, and the sperm may not live for very long at all.

Sperm can live in a woman's body for up to six days — possibly seven. That's why most pregnancies result from fertilization by sperm that have been waiting in a woman's reproductive tract days before the release of her egg — ovulation — takes place.
Outside the body — where they're not being nourished and protected by a woman's cervical mucus and vaginal secretions, or the warmth and moisture of a man's urethra and reproductive tract — sperm die anywhere between a half an hour to four hours after being ejaculated. If the ejaculate has dried out, or has been wiped or washed off, there are no longer any living sperm to worry about.
Hope this information helps!
