The definitive location for sad country music is Hank Williams. He has one song that will make you want to take a swig from a fifth every time you hear it: "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". There's also "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used to Do".
The man lived a very unhappy life and he died tragically alone in the back seat of his car. A lot of his music reflects the utter sadness of his soul. You can't get any sadder than that.

"Every Time I Hear Your Name" by Keith Anderson is great. He's a new artist. It's from his cd called "Three Chord Country and American Rock and Roll". George Strait's song "Easy Come, Easy Go", the title track from a very early CD of his is another great breakup song.
