Rte 66 is great if you are looking for out of the way places or something that existed 50 yrs ago. I live in Albuquerque on Rte 66. Had lunch at the Rte 66 diner not long ago. Lots to see and do, including some casinos. Geography is great since Alb is a desert plateau surrounded by mountains. Rte 40 which goes east and west cross country (I have traveled it both ways several times) is five minutes from Rte 66 here in Alb. Check it out.

I lived in Tulsa for awhile, and Route 66 went straight through there. It was kinda cool. Some old cafe's and stuff. Most of it was run down and on the verge of being condemned. There were a few cool things to look at, though.
By the way, I love your Avatar!

Try getting a Route 66 guide, like the one from AAA. There are others at bookstores. You'll get an idea of the renovated hotels and cafes and so on, to give you something to decide you.

won't be in a position to make contributions lots to the unique question, yet i'd prefer to characteristic to reaction. My spouse and that i journey the US129, the infamous "Tail of the Dragon" very in many circumstances. it is going to be on each and every riders "could do" checklist. As stated, it is purely an 11 mile strip of highway, yet one which you are going to remember for something of your existence. additionally on an analogous time as in the section the 'Cherohala Skyway' is yet another could do. Many riders alongside with ourselves make a loop out of the two roads by using using community mountain roads and it must be experienced to be completely understood. decrease back in June of ultimate 12 months on our trip holiday we secure the Natchez hint. started in Nashville, Tn and extremely rode it 'backwards' all the way right down to the different end, 455 miles later in Natchez, Ms. yet another super journey, yet no longer in the conventional in view that. it is not any longer a curvy mountain highway, no longer by using any ability. however the line is new and in super shape, it is extensive and properly marked. the subject that makes the hint so unique is the ecosystem and the history of the section. We have been like complete vacationer taking virtually 3 days to end it! there is a lot to work out and adventure, if this is your concern. we can certainly be doing it lower back as part of yet another journey while we've better than an prolonged week-end to be long previous.

I live off Route 66 in OKC. It's fun if you enjoy taking it slow and seeing the country side. Lots of neat stops and small towns to see.

It's all piecemeal now, but there are a few attractions left, some tourist traps. It's up to you, if you like off of the beaten path. Most people just take the freeway now.
