I need to purchase something off of the internet using a money order. I know where to get them and will do it at the Post Office but I have never done it.

So I just take the money to the Post Office, pay the fee, give them the address to mail the money and that's it? And if something happens to that money before it reaches the recipient the Post Office will cover it?

Thanks.

not quite...you take the cash to the post office tell them you want a money order for whatever the amount is they will print it out and give it to you you take it fill it out and put it into the envelope that you have addressed make sure to fill the money order out completely and keep the reciept part of it it may be a good idea to insure it or to send it certified mail

Go to a drug store, the money orders are cheaper. Unless you need an International Money Order, then you need to go to the Post Office.

You give them the money, plus fee for the processing of the money order. They give you the money order back and you mail it to the recepient. The money order has a tear off section that you keep that contains a number that is unique to your money order and does allow you to trace the money order in case it is lost in the mail. As far as the Post Office covering the money order, if the money order is lost or not cashed after a period of time, you can recoup your money by filing forms, etc. But you have to wait a very long time (months) before you are reimbursed.

You don't "make" a money order, you buy it. You can get them at the Post Office, most supermarkets, all banks, most Wal-Mart stores and many convenience stores. You pay the fee and the value of the money order and they hand it to you. It's up to you to get it to the recipient.

Almost correct . . .

They give you the $$$ order after you buy it and you are responsible for where it goes.
There is a carbon copy you keep and if it does not get cashed , then you can go to the post office with the carbon copy for a refund.
They also sell them at most major grocery stores.

You purchase a money order - fill in the recipients name and your name in the blanks provided, keep one copy for your records and stick it in an envelope to mail it. Just ask the postal worker if you are unsure.

i think you've hit it on the head mate, correct! if the money is lost, you've got the receipt and they'll find out where it is.
