Do braces, flyaway hair, glasses and a unique dress sense REALLY make someone UGLY? The ugliest people I know are aesthetically pleasing but treat others with contempt and back stab, abuse, use and bitchabout others. Ugly people make lives miserable for those around them by upsetting everyone, they want to be the centre of attention and manipulate people to get what they want.
This series by name alone is surely making life hell for anyone vaguely resembling this girl, who is good at heart, studious, conscientious, hard working and honest. She truly is and should be re-named 'BEAUTIFUL BETTY'. The people she works for are the ugly ones!

It is just a show. If the show was to be 'Beautfiul Betty', who would want to watch that show? I know I wouldn't. That is the whole point to the show 'Ugly Betty'!
I think the actress America Ferrera who plays 'Ugly Betty' is attractive as well talented.
You are right that some 'ugly' people do have beautiful personalities while it can be the opposite for 'beautiful' people - but not always.

If she were truly ugly, she wouldn't be on TV...unless she was an eyewitness in a local newscast...in reality, she's a very attractive person. It's sort of the Superman/Clark Kent thing. All it takes is a pair of glasses and BOOM! You're completely unrecognizable. I've always wondered about Lois Lane. How did she get to be a journalist when she was such an idiot?
The same with Ugly Betty. If she's ugly, then Hillary will make a fantastic President..... :)

No my girlfriend thinks she's not ugly either. I suppose at first reactions you might think she is not good looking. I've been watching Ugly Betty now for some time and I got passed the braces and the so called ugliness.
I bet they will make a series were she has her braces off and is all done up looking very beautiful.
My Girlfriend thinks that Daniel might end up with her as she is a good assistants to him and knows him well.
It is a bit like the film "The Devil Wears Prada" I defiantly recommend it if you like ugly Betty. Also Its a very good film.

I agree...america Ferrera is beautiful...and even with fake braces...messy hair, and a unique sence of style...she is pretty. She isn't ugly...or hard to look at...but in the fasion world...people who are normal like betty don't really fit in. I think that is the whole concept of the show...to prove that people who are different and are stereotyped can still be successful, and make a difference.

You are right Ugly Betty is not ugly, she is really a pretty girl. Lovely both inside and out while all the other people within the industry she works in are materialistic

No, not only is she not ugly but her characters inside beauty makes the pretty girls stand out as a bunch of ugly stuck up rude women that I would never want to be in that category.

That's the whole point of the show I think. Beauty is not on the outside but truly on the inside! Plus she is the only character besides Daniel who's getting offers from men who I personally are cute looking especially Henry!

of course she is not....if she were then they would be making fun of her with the title.
years ago there was a show called 'on the buses' starring a woman that no man would invite to their beds.....then one day she appeared in a newspaper as she really is, what a stunner!!!!
to me, a lot of these super models are the epitamy of ugliness, skin and bone, bad attitude and a superiority complex.
i am hoping that this is the point of the programme, (i never watch it myself but my sons g/f raves about it) that one day it will show that she really is the the most beautiful person in the show

She may not be considered "beautiful" on the outside because of today's so-called standards, but she's got the true beauty coming from within. That's the beauty that lasts the longest. No amount of Botox needed to keep that beauty going.

She is ugly! That is the beauty. For as long she is gonna be ugly for who knows how long...it would be such a suprise and excitement to see her become beautiful! Ah the beauty of the show!
