Giver her plenty of fluids. The more she had to drink, the thinner the secretions will be and the easier they will be for her to cough up.
When she is actively coughing, sit her in your lap and percussion her lungs. Pat her back with a slightly cupped hand. Start at her waist and put up to her shoulders. Stop, go back to her waist and do it again. Do not pat on the way down, just as you come up. This will help loosen the stuff and get it up.
Also give her a bath in Johnson/Johnson's vapor bath before you put her to bed. That stuff is wonderful. So is the Johnson's vapor rub. Put that on her neck/chest before you lay her down.
Dress her in light layers, keep her room cool, but cold. Keep a cool mist humidifier on in her room at night.
Put a pillow at the top of her crib and lay her down with her upper body on the pillow. No guarantee that she will stay on the pillow, but it helps if she does.

i would be very careful about some home remedies. even though your baby is about a year old, some ingredients may not really be safe yet.

my baby has had croup twice this winter, and the treatment for us was to have a humidifier in the room (we keep it going all the time now), and to either go into the bathroom with the door closed and run the shower to let the baby breathe the steam for about 20 minutes or to bundle up and let the baby breathe the cold night air. for the most part, these helped.

if you have a regular pediatrician, you might call the night advice nurse for some other ideas and to make sure they don't think something else is up. or, if you really get worried, you can always make a trip to the emergency room. i don't mean to scare you, but safe is always better and no one will fault you for putting your child's health first. i hope she is feeling better soon and that you both can get some rest! take care!

apply some vicks baby rub on her chest, back and neck, that will give her some comfort. Massage her back with the vapor rub to help loosen the mucus in the chest.
If she is up to it, give some warm milk to soothe her throat and help her settle.

Dont keep her directly in the direction of a open window in case you are leaving your windows open at night.

take her to the doctor first thing tomorrow morning and demand a chest x-ray. dont leave unless you get one done even if the doctor says the breathing is normal. There is a type of viral pnemonia which is not detected by hearing the lungs and the major symptoms are cough and it can be deadly, so please get it done. Sorry for sounding so paranoid but dont take any chances.

Hope she feels better soon! Sending loads of get well wishes.

if it continues throughout the next day and it gets to the point where she is coughing so hard that she's throwing up. you need to take her to the doctor and be more persistent. i had to do that when my child was 8 months old. at first she just had a normal cold. and then it developed into Bronchialitis. and they had to give her liquid asthma medication and antibiotics. i had to be persistent with them, b/c they just kept saying that it's a cold and that she would get better, but it kept getting worse.

try closing yourself with the baby in the bathroom and turn on the shower really hot. sit on the toilet and wait until the room gets steamy. when the bathroom is filled with steam stay in there until your daughter is able to breath again. and don't turn the shower off until you are ready to get out. and you will probably sweat. but, it really helps the baby breathe better.

I would call the pediatrician. They may need to do a chest x-ray to make sure it hasn't turned into pneumonia or RSV. Both of my children(2 and 5)have allergies and get pneumonia at least once a year, and that her symotoms sound alot like theirs.

make sure she drinks lots of water. buy some Ocean nose spray and get out the bulb syringe. USE IT! keep her airway clear. put a vaporizer in her room when she sleeps.
if you notice her symptoms do not improve when you clear her nose w/the syringe and she begins to run a fever, get her to the doctor or ER.
