I just wanted to add that surgery is not the only way to handle a tubal pregnancy. My daughter in law had an ectopic pregnancy and she was given the option of surgery or medication that would basically stop the development of the embryo. She chose the non-surgical route. A cancer drug is used (methotrexate). The embryo is then absorbed by the body and your hormone levels which are closely monitored return to normal.
For this to be an option the problem must be discovered early. Anytime that a pregnancy test is positive but the uterus is not changing, the doctor suspects an ectopic pregnancy. Sometimes the embryo is still so small that pain is not a sign yet there may be bleeding. In fact early bleeding is often the first sign. An ectopic pregnancy can be missed if the doctor assumes that it was just an early miscarriage. Hormone levels must be checked to make sure that it was actually a miscarriage, an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy can be fatal, although today with all the testing methods that are available this is very rare.
If you suspect an ectopic/tubal pregnancy please discuss it with your doctor, she should be able to put your mind at rest. If they do an ultra sound and there is no baby in the uterus I think that would be a strong sign that the baby IS somewhere else! You need to find out. It is possible to survive an ectopic pregnancy without losing the tube in question.
Take care and good luck.
Love and Blessings

Usually, a women will have lower signs to begin with, lower hormone levels and not as many problems at first. Then she will start to have pain, either all over or on one side of her abdomen, usually really low, feels worse then cramps, but somewhat similar. Sometimes, if it's caught early enough, they can save the tube, but surgery is the only option to take care of it. If the tube ruptures, there will be severe pain, and usually lots of bleeding. If you suspect a tubal pregnancy, or are experiencing pain or bleeding, call your doctor! Usually symptoms will begin as soon as a few weeks after implantation.
