i have a 30g. i want to know some cool tricks or modes that people usually dont know...can someone help me?

What tricks? All that you can do is play music, look at photos, and watch videos.

If you have a 5.5g or have recently updated the firmware on a 5g with iTunes 7, they added a few new features to the iPod, including gapless playback (no more brief moments of silence between audio tracks, particularly with medleys or live concerts), the ability to adjust the intensity of the backlight, and the ability to set a cap on the maximum volume (this is even lockable, in case you don't want people to mess with it).
However, those probably aren't the type of tricks you're looking for. One of the two that I know of is hypertext notes, which can be linked to individual songs, playlists, artists, or any other sort type that's supported within the iPod firmware.
And if you don't mind voiding your warranty, it's possible to change the graphics used by the iPod, from the little blue scroll bar that's used for volume level to the battery symbols that display when it's charging, to even the Do Not Disconnect icon that appears when it's syncing.

not much... cept you can use it a flashlight to light your way when in a dark room/place.
