I got pulled over & was given a ticket.
I went to court, & they told me to pay the $125 penalty & plead guilty or go to traffic school & pay $116.
I told them I wanted to contest the ticket so I'm scheduled to go back to court next month.
Even if I was going 2 miles above the speed limit, I think that it's ridiculous to get one for that...

The speed limit is an absolute ceiling for the speed that you are allowed to go given the type of road and location. It is still a violation of the law to go a mere two miles per hour over the limit, so yes it is fair.

Fair, yes. Speeding is speeding.

But you can contest the ticket like you said. Where I live, you can contest anything that is within 5 mph of the speed limit because of radar margin of error. Also, they have to consider hills or passing other cars and like situations.

in Michigan they are giving tickets for 1 mile per hour over and for going through yellow lights..

i have seen people who are 62 years old and never got a ticket go before the magistrate and have the ticket upheld and they were found guilty.

maybe if you have a perfect record and the judge is liberal thinking you might beat the 2 mph ticket..it could not hurt to try...what ever you do..the judge will be looking for your demeanor and attitude...also your record will be reviewed...dress conservatively..

When I was in court the other day... I notice something odd. Every white person that was fighting their ticket...they were being written up at 5 over or 10 over. Every black person fighting their ticket was being written up for 13 over and 18 over. It seemed that the cops were rounding down the numbers on the ticket for white people and tagging black people what was displayed on the radar gun. I have no point to make...but just an observation.

what's not fair is that you got the ticket going 2 miles over the limit while others get away with going 15 miles over the limit.

technically, 2 miles over the limit is already breaking the law, and i think you have no chance defending that. suggest you save everybody's time by not contesting.

I often do think it's amazing that we pander to the illegals who break America's immigration laws and protect their benefits, but penalize with fines on citizens who just go a couple of miles above that 25-35 miles limit! :-)

Seriously, that is ridiculous. Was there more to the ticket than that? It is almost hard to believe that a cop would give you a ticket for just going 2 mph over.

Wow, that is a pretty hefty fine for only 2 miles. Where do you live? Russia.?
Personally. I would also contest and have them prove how they can accurately show only 2 miles per hour over the limit based on your odometer.
