Gen-Xers were spoiled rotten by their affluent Baby Boomer parents, who competed hard on how to indulge their expensive (read: kid) hobby.
I have proof, in that my daughter is so spoiled, she doesn't even know that the world doesn't revolve around her . . . but she is sweet, though, and that makes up for it.

I've personally worked my a-ss off for everything I have, and maybe we think so highly of ourselves because we're kinda like our parents. We look down on Gen-Y now. When I was growing up we didn't have cell phones, computers, basiclly everything that Y takes for granted.
You know the typical parents story, " Had to walk 5 miles to school blah blah blah", well now it's kinda true with X, We didn't have the internet to surf and everything was based on your " word " which means nothing today, due to technology.
My friends little brother takes everything he has for granted, I mean everything. Maybe we did the same to a certain extent but now everything is just a click away.
I think parents now try to buy there kids everything and expect that to work, but low and behold it doesn't.
Anyway, that's my two cents.

Why is Generation Y so whiny, spoiled, and lazy? Just want you to know that the negatives go both ways.
Gen Xers put up with a lot of BS from both the older and the younger generations. Until you make a real effort to understand us, there's no reason why we should take your insulting complaints seriously.
Come back when you can ask the question without the negative tone. And I'll give you a serious answer.
EDIT: We were spoiled rotten?! Wow. I guess someone better tell my parents that they spoiled us. I didn't realize that. Especially since I paid for everything I wanted including college and any cars I had.

Generation X was born to baby-boomers, who were successful in most cases. Gen Xers just thought they had everything coming to them--but wound up making far less money than their parents did (and the boomers made less than THEIR parents did after WWII).
