Most likely a virus you could've gotten. Try reinstalling windows, if you own a copy of windows on a disk (if not call up your computer manufacturer and they will send you your copy for free) and what you do is restart your computer and keep rapidly pressing the DEL button on your keyboard or the F8 button, one of them will bring up this screen, you will run this thing and it will ask you if you want to delete everything ona a certain disk, anbd you do so and then you reinstall windows with a clkean and refreshed computer and hard drive with all that junk gone RIGHT down the drain. Or you could go to the Geek Squad, they'd be able to help you.

Its either a driver problem, boot loader problem, or a physical device problem. If its the first, the most common, its the result of loading a driver that messes with your computer and gives it the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). In that case, when the computer beeps, sometimes no noise, hit the F8 button, or whatever function button is designated for your computer to get to the boot menu, and select "boot in safe mode." From there just change what you last changed to your comp. driver wise.
If the boot loader is screwed up, I don't think your computer will Post, the beeping noise, but will keep rebooting. In that case, since I don't no how to fix the boot loader, I'd copy all the important data off and reformat.
If its a physical device problem, it would most likely be a hard drive, you would have to find what the error code the BSOD is giving you. It would be the gibberish numbers and letters on the screen. Google whatever code it gives you to try and find which device is giving the problem and replace/disconnect/fix it.

I had this same problem after running a free internet scan.I have never been able to get my computer going again. Seems like the scan was some sort of virus that put my computer into this infinite loop. You cant reinstall anything or remove anything if your is like mine I couldnt get in no matter what I tried. All I can say is I wish you luck on this one.

If you reinstall Windows XP, it will uninstall your previous version automatically.
But it might be that you have a hardware problem, in which case, reinstalling XP will probably not solve your problem.
