I know if I was able to go to windows update, it would find them for me, but it's my eithernet controller that needs the driver, so I have no access to the internet with that computer. I don't know what make my card is so i can't even go download the driver for it. device manager just calls in ethernet controller. but when i look at the details it says that the hardware Id is pci\ven_100b&dev_0020subsys_0850103c&rev_100 but when I did a search on that i came up with basically nothing.

Open up your computer and take a look.

The adapter should have the name of the manufacturer and model number stenciled on it.

Once you get that information, use the computer that you're asking this question on to download the driver installation file, then burn it to a CD. Take that CD to your machine with the problem and install it there.

Good Luck,

Onboard or plugin card?
Onboard more than likely its a realtek. Go to the realtek website and download any of the drivers there it will work.
Plugin card, you are going to have to remove the card and look for a name or a number printed on it. Then go find the drivers.
Luck to you.

You can try www.pcidatabase.com I've had pretty luck before with finding out "who" owns a device based on the PCI id.

pci\ven_100b&dev_0020 has references to NETGear.
I would try there first.
