We have been trying to start a '90 Caddy El Dorado, but it won't budge. It has a special mechanism where the alarm locks the ignition switch, but it's been so long since we've used it that we forgot the trick that gets it to disengage. If anyone knows how to disengage it, please post the answer. It will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

i own a repair shop, and this may be one of those that you have to mash down on the brake pedal to get it to start,i have one of those also, that was a popular one for gm and ford to use,try that and see if that works, good luck i hope this helps.

The only anti-theft mechanism I'm familiar with on that car is the VATS resistor chip built into the key. You shouldn't have a problem starting it if you have the right key; if not, you'll have to find the two wires that read the resistance through the key switch, cut them, and connect them together through the correct size resistor to bypass the anti-theft system.

Do a google search for GM VATS for more information.

I had a '90 seville with the same problem. I had to replace ignition lock with one from a junk yard. BEWARE OF AIRBAG!
