Congrats on the baby. I am a first time mommy to a 1 month old baby girl and Im having the same problem. My daugter was drinking 2 oz for a while and now shes at 4 oz, and sometimes she wants more. I also feel the same way I dont want to overfeed her and I dont want to start her eating habits bad. So I asked the doc and he said start her on 1 oz cereal once a day. and then go to 2 oz after a couple of weeks. Make sure its the rice cereal. Its easier for the baby to digest. I give her 1 oz cereal then a bottle of milk. Just watch for things like throwing up and constipation. Also maybe a pacifier. I swore I would never give my child a pacifier and made sure she wasnt given one at the hospital but being a first timer I changed my mind. I went through 4 different ones before my daughter finally took one. The soothie pacifier she loves it. Babies like to suck. It relaxes them. I bought the soothie pacifiers at foodland. Next doc apt ask her doc about the eating..

Two possibilities - She may just be hungry! Most babies go thru a spurt at 6 weeks, and eat a TON! Just feed her as she asks for it - try upping to 6 ounce bottles if my next suggestion doesnt work.
She may just want to suck. If you give her a 4 ounce bottle and she's screaming 10 minutes later, try a pacifier. If all she wants is to suck and she only gets a bottle, then she may be overeating, then her stomach may hurt. Just try and see if it works. ( I swear they are god's gift to mothers...-and don't buy the "its impossible to break them of pacificers" line. Its not that hard. I was against them at first, but once a had a child...I LOVE them)!!!
Also...she's too little to understand the "scream and get what you want" thing. Don't worry about that until she's about 4-6 months old. Right now, she needs you to attend to her every need. The trust needs to be formed between you and her for the next few months. Then you can worry about the tough-love parenting. :)
Good luck!!

I am a mother of three my baby is 4 weeks old and does the same thing she drinks 4 ounces start to fall asleep and minutes later scream for more so total drinks up to 6 ounces sometimes i would not worry about overfeeding she will know when she is full intake will also depend on size of baby. Good luck and injoy her they grow up quick.

Try giving her six ounces at each feeding and some mylicon gas drops about fifteen minutes before you feed her. She may just be going through a growth spurt. Watch for excessive spitting up though. If she is spitting up excessively the doctor may want to change her formula. She could be experiencing GERD ( gastric esophageal reflux disorder). Don't worry lots of babies have it (some people mistake it for colic). Don't worry about her associating crying with being fed, she's still too young to be spoiled. Try to relax she'll know if your not. Good luck.

I agree to let her eat what she wants to an extent. She might just like the sucking...its soothing. I guess try a pacifier...different kinds in case she doesnt like one you might have tried already. My daughter wouldnt take the regular ones, the nurse in the hospital gave her the "Soothie" pacifier. Its green and looks like its the nipple to the "Soothie" brand bottles. Thats the only one she would take for months. My daughter was majorly aggressive but 4-6 oz at a sitting was about her max at 6 wks.
Make sure its not gas, use Mylicon drops! (Get the dye-free)
My daughter (8 months) also fusses if you try to burp her when she doesnt need to burp. Dont worry! You'll start to notice what they like and dont like. Every baby is different so good luck!
When in doubt call her pediatrician!

Heck lady my mom said I would drink down 10oz of formula in 5 minutes and yell for more and she gave it to me. I am not over weight by much and never had any problems health wise. Call and ask you pediatrician and ask what to do but I would give her a little more 4 ounces don't sound like much.

Either she's hungry or she has gas. If her stomach is feels hard she probably has gas. Give her some drops of Mylecin (sp?) to get rid of gas. If she doesn't seem to have gas then try giving her 6 oz. of formula. She might be going through a growth spurt.

she may be going through a growth spurt which will give her a big appetite. just feed her until she is satisfied. another thought that came to my mind is gas. has this just started recently? does she do it all the time or just sometimes? does she eat so much that she throws up? if she does it may be gas. sometimes babies get gas and they think that eating will make it better, because eating fixes the hunger pains. if she does not throw up, she is just a hungry little one so feed her until she is satisfied.

It may be time to start her on something more substantial like rice, not all babies are the same. They don't all grow at the same rate or are ready to move to up rice and cereal at the same time. Acid reflux is another issue you may want to consider or gas. If giving her a little rice or cereal does not help her it may be a more serious problem and you may need to visit her Dr.
